Washington (CNN)Emboldened after his impeachment acquittal, President Donald Trump now openly admits to sending his attorney Rudy Giuliani to Ukraine to find damaging information about his political opponents, even though he strongly denied it during the impeachment inquiry.

The reversal came Thursday in a podcast interview Trump did with journalist Geraldo Rivera, who asked, "Was it strange to send Rudy Giuliani to Ukraine, your personal lawyer? Are you sorry you did that?" Trump responded, "No, not at all," and praised Giuliani's role as a "crime fighter."

"Here's my choice: I deal with the Comeys of the world, or I deal with Rudy," Trump said, referring to former FBI Director James Comey. Trump explained that he has "a very bad taste" of the US intelligence community, because of the Russia investigation, so he turned to Giuliani.

Trump had previously denied that he sent Giuliani to Ukraine. Asked in November if he directed Giuliani to "do anything" in Ukraine, Trump said, "No, I didn't direct him," but went on to call Giuliani a "great corruption fighter."

See what acquittal did for Trump? Now he doesn't have to pretend he didn't do the things he did that are wrong. Why should he? His GOP is behind him for better or worse and so is his base whether it's tearing this country apart or not. And, it's going to get worse, far worse.

I am and have been since 9.10.15 one of Trumps premier groupies, though I said then that I would never vote for him again, which I am now reconsidering.

I am currently with Gabbard.

First of all, the President can send just about anyone he wants as a personal envoy. There is no Constitutional prohibition on this capability.

Second of all, his "admission" of sending Giuliani to Ukraine does not equate to "finding dirt on Biden" (finding damaging information about 'political opponents.').

Trump has stated in this interview that he has no faith in the Intelligence community, and we know he has concerns about other Agencies, including the FBI.

IMO he has good reason. Anyone who has been ignoring the non-stop efforts starting with the "Steel Dossier" hoax, followed by constant leaks, undermining, refusal to act on policy. etc., and of all sorts of "moles" in the government working against his policies will of course not understand Trump's preference for using "trusted" personnel.

The Dems were sniffing all around Ukraine in 2016 and Ukraine was willing to try to find dirt on Trump. Far from Russian collusion by Trump, the only evidences of collusion to influence the election we've found involve the Democrats and Hillary Clinton.

Exactly who Guiliani is working for is a big question. The president does not pay his own personal lawyer a salary, nor is Rudy on the public payroll. This situation could lead to a lot of questionable activity and any American should be offended by this behavior.

From the Washington Post, I know there's a firewall.

Rudolph W. Giuliani is not the secretary of state. In fact, he has no official position in President Trump’s Cabinet or administration. Yet he is traveling the world holding himself out as a U.S. government operative, engaging in some unknown amount of “unofficial” diplomacy and insisting his work is not only officially sanctioned by the president but also assisted by the State Department. The president’s “private lawyer” is not charging Trump for his services, but he and his law firm are known to have dozens of clients — including foreign entities — who are paying for whatever services they think Giuliani can provide for them.
That is a very convenient setup for Giuliani — but it leaves the public in the dark about the wealthy special interests who might be subsidizing his gratis work for Trump — or for whom he might actually be working while invoking Trump’s name and that of the State Department. Because Giuliani is not officially a federal employee, he can sidestep ethics obligations that would require transparency behind the foreign or domestic interests who are paying him.

He is a good guy who was working for America, unlike a lot of these ****s we have on the public payroll....there is no mystery here.

He sent Giuliani to dig up 'dirt' on his political opponent. That says it all.

Oh and don't forget the help Roger Stone gave the campaign by handing over 10,000 hacked emails that he got from Julian Assange who was sent those emails by Russian hackers. That's okay with you though, right?

Why would Assange have to give emails to Stone when he could simply publicly release them? That aside, the recommended sentence is out of all proportion to the charged crimes. It's simply a political vendetta much like the one that went after Paul Manafort yet gave immunity to Tony Podesta who was knee deep in the same activities.

That Rudy Guiliani is a "good guy" is a product of your own personal thinking, though there can't be too much thinking going on if you have no problem with the president's personal attorney drawing his salary from unnamed foreign entities.

The recommended sentence was from the sentencing guidelines approved by the Trump administration.

It is the evaluation of a well educated man, a man who has over this lifetime proven to be correct much more often than most.

The prosecutors are in no way constrained by the guidelines in their recommendation and may add "enhancements" on each count. That's how they got to 7-9 years.

Was the enhancement due to his threatening physical harm to a witness? Even without enhancements the recommendation would have been 7 years.

Not working for America. Working for Donald Trump only. Politically motivated stunt to help Trump gain an advantage in the 2020 election. All wrong and possibly illegal in many ways.

Just because the senate acquitted him, it doesn't mean it wasn't wrong.

I think were way overdue in re-visiting the DOJ opinion that a sitting president can't be indicted. It should be thrown out.
