Trump is restructuring the entire U.S. Justice Dept for the benefit of Roger Stone, his friend of 30 years. He has used the power of William Barr to accomplish it. The fallout of this interference resulted in four experienced, non-partisan prosecutors walking away from the case. If Trump gets his way, it will mean that one of our most impartial and non-partisan federal agencies is now nothing other than an arm of the president. The justice dept will be lacking 4 more people serving this country out of patriotism and integrity. Trump denied that his action could be considered political interference.
Starting with some of Trump's statements to the press yesterday. "This is a horrible and unfair situation. A miscarriage of justice. Roger Stone was treated very badly."
Then this tweet:
Fact check:
Roger Stone is a convicted felon, convicted at trial by a jury of 13 of his peers on 3 counts of lying to Congress, witness tampering and obstruction of justice.
Fact check:
There's no evidence whatsoever that Robert Mueller lied to Congress and nobody has ever accused him of lying to Congress.
Tweet regarding Paul Manafort and compared him being put in ''SOLITARY CONFINEMENT" to the treatment of Al Capone.
Fact check:
According to Andrew Weismanm, lead prosecutor under Robert Mueller and Senior Fellow at the NYU School of Law, "Paul Manafort has never been in solitary confinement. Just to be clear, judges do not place people in solitary confinement or not. Where people are placed and how they're housed is done by the warden of the prison. Because he was a high-profile inmate, Paul Manafort was placed in what's known as a 'Michael Vicks suite' ... as two previous high-profile inmates — former NFL star Michael Vick and Chris Brown had been detained. He did not wear prison clothes, he was caught on tape saying he was being treated like a VIP, he had internet access, he had a private room, private library with a laptop and a huge extension cord so he could bring it anywhere he wanted. So, that's Paul Manafort's 'solitary confinement".
Roger Stone apologized to Judge Amy Berman Jackson after posting this on his twitter, a 'bullseye' next to her photo. She is the same judge that's going to be passing sentence on Stone next Thursday.
