Great piece on CNN how Trump is doubling down after his victory in the Senate and now tries to take even more steps to being a uncontrollable authoritarian.

Trump weaponizes the Presidency after impeachment - CNNPolitics

A taste of the article

(CNN)Donald Trump is moving fast in the wake of his impeachment trial to use the government to punish his enemies and pursue his political ends, underlining how his acquittal has helped make him one of history's most powerful modern Presidents.

Trump has meted out retribution to officials who testified against him in the impeachment inquiry, is making a push to defy Congress in funding his border wall and appears to be seeking new ways to hector former Vice President Joe Biden after facing down a mortal threat to his presidency.
He is completing his project of fashioning the office around his own personality. It's unrestrained, unaccountable, often profane, impervious to outside influence and factual constraints of normal governance. The President has established dominance over his party, his Cabinet and his own media complex. He loosened Congress's constraints by refusing to cooperate with the impeachment probe.
The result is that there are very few political constraints on his behavior left.

Trumpkins will of course dismiss the piece but the rest of us can only shudder in anticipation of a Trump answerable to nobody and beyond the law.

CNN makes for lousy opinion pieces and fonts on websites.
Lose the CNN font.

Trump will always be answerable to the law...just like every President before him.

And there will always be the same political constraint on him that every President before him has had: The voter.

Now...if you want more, say, someone in his administration who hates him and doesn't mind breaking the law by leaking classified information to the media...well, yeah...that's going to end. Too bad if that chaps your ass.

Trump is beyond the law if the checks and balances do not work and they have not so far. His re-election would only compound the travesty.

Who leaked classified information to the media?

They obviously do not know the meaning of the words they use.
authoritarian
favoring or enforcing strict obedience to authority, especially that of the government, at the expense of personal freedom.

no where do i see this happening.

Vindman was re-assigned for good reason.

Sure they have.

Trump hasn't broken any laws, so there is nothing for anyone to check or balance.

If you have a problem with him getting re-elected, talk to the voters.

They won't dismiss it they embrace it and want him to go further in his grab of power and enjoy his abuses...Because what else is a cult leader to do?

The CNN font is unreadable.

I agree. Sky writing would be easier. As it is, I use binoculars backwards, which seems like maybe an extreme effort to read disappointing journalism.

Sure they have.

When Republican Senators admit he broke the law but then vote to acquit him - that is a sure sign the system of checks and balances no longer work.

The voters do not elect the president.

sigh...

Not directly, but yes...they do.

You got anything else you want to deflect to?

Checks and balances will continue to work. Trump, for example, will never get that proposed budget of his through the House-- not without some serious negotiation and compromise that is.
You guys need to chill out. Every act of Mr. Trump is not a violation of law nor a sign of authoritarianism. Heck, the article cited said he is one of the more powerful of the modern presidents-- which means its debatable whether other presidents wielded greater power.

It means the death penalty is not an appropriate penalty for jaywalking.

In the three years since this article was published, how many indictments have resulted from these investigations?

There have been some. One that comes to mind is that lady mentioned in the article I presented...Reality Winner, who ended up getting sentenced to more than five years in jail.

Reality Winner, N.S.A. Contractor Accused in Leak, Pleads Guilty - The New York Times

btw, this NYT article talks a little about James Wolfe...another classified information leaker who worked for the Senate Intel committee. He got a slap on the wrist instead of jail time because he threatened to call a bunch of Senators in as witnesses. Burr and Warner couldn't allow that to happen.

I realize this is a feeling hurter but Trump is the President of the US and can fire anyone for any reason. Why would you think for a second he would employ anyone who tried to go around their own chain of command to rush down and make fake claims against him.

You will just have to nurse those feeling back to health. The only one doubling down is CNN from tanking cable news ratings.
