[W:151]Iowa Caucuses

Yeah, because by any metric this primary looked inevitable.

I am not so sure on that. We still have 4 people who have a reasonable chance at it.

Damn, didn't see this thread 'till now. Oh, well ...

Anyway, I've been watching on MSNBC and have been really enjoying it. That is, until the Iowa Dem caucus reporting system failed. But up until then, the coverage and activity was pretty exciting. I think the caucus system there kicks ass, and I'd love if my state had it. It's very social & interactive, bringing neighbors together. I really like it!

Biden looking firmly in fourth; this is terrible for him and the DNC leadership in so far as their objective is to stop Sanders, especially with Sanders having such a big lead on the first vote.

There is no doubt this will strike a blow to Biden's myth of inevitability and superior electability; this is doubly problematic for them in that Sanders is the leading second choice of Joe's supporters.

New Hampshire may be an even bigger disappointment for Biden.

There are zero results so far, so no, Biden is not in 4th or 3rd, or 2nd, or 1st.

Looking, not is.

But yeah, I don't think this is going to turn out well for him.

Already hearing the conspiracies that the DNC is taking it away from Bernie with all the issues with the results. :lamo

Didn't know so many Alex Jones supporters were also Bernie bros.

That would require a degree of ingenuity I do not credit caucus goers.

It was a claim running around during I think Iowa in 2016, that Clinton had won like 7 or 8 coin tosses in a row, which they claimed was impossible(the last part should tell you alot about those making the claim).

There's no beer allowed?:doh
There is at one of the venues I saw on NBC - 5 bucks a beer & 8 bucks a mixed drink, with locals meeting with the reporters in the local bar afterwards.

It is not looking like anything, except slow. There are no results to look at.

A caucus as fine as far as it goes. Simply does not deserve first in the nation status. No caucus does and this one is already a cluster thanks to the rules changes that nobody seems to be able to track.

That's what the media would have had you believe until they were forced to acknowledge Sanders was capable of winning.

What crackpot media have you been consuming? From the get-go this primary looked nuts. 23 candidates, when one dropped out another jumped in, party insiders reluctant to give endorsements at all, donors reluctant to get on board with anyone, primary polling numbers all over the place. Heck, for a long time now the press has been reluctant to view Biden as the front-runner or even a potential eventual nominee.

And the notion of electability is most certainly Joe's greatest strength in this primary.

That's a fairly reasonable assumption he's had, given conventional politics and a fairly consistent theme from polling firms over the last many months.

Great night for Buttigieg and Sanders.

Disaster for Biden thus far, but still a long way to go.

The one that has routinely minimized and avoided mention of Sanders when they're not featuring consistent one sided critiques of him. Biden has routinely been held up as _the_ frontrunner despite occasional dalliances with flavours of the week that weren't Sanders.

Well, until recently that is, which is the point being made.

A caucus is never going to be a "disaster" for anybody though the MSM will try to make us think so. I honestly don't care who comes out of this "ahead" as having a caucus as "first in the nation" has never made any sense, not now and not ever.

Remember the good ol' days when party bosses would give us booze and favors in exchange for a vote? These Democrats are cheap dates.
Yep!

"Where's my garbage can?"

"Can you help me with my kid's parking ticket?"

"I got this problem with ... "

Um... wtf?

The party said it would release information about the results "as soon as it passes quality control," adding that it was taking additional steps "out of an abundance of caution."

"We are doing our quality control checks, making sure the numbers are accurate. People are still caucusing, we're working to report results soon," the party said.

Shortly after 10:00 p.m. ET, no results from the caucuses had been reported, a much slower process than had been expected. At roughly the same time in the 2016 caucuses, more than half the vote had been reported.

New Hampshire may be an even bigger disappointment for Biden.

Depends on if Biden was ever in the lead up there, which probably never happened. For a while he was the favorite in Iowa.

If the cluster we have in this country now does not make one yearn for the good ole' days of smoke filled rooms we are not paying attention. The cluster is much worse now and the only thing missing from the "rooms" is the smoke and any semblance of negotiation and compromise.

The fact that Iowa's Secretary of State is not in charge of running elections for both parties is weird.
Why would they (Secy of State) be involved? It's not an election. It's a private party process.

Well, until recently that is, which is the point being made.

That's because while Biden was largely on top, the surges were going to Warren (summer & fall) and Pete (fall & early winter). Only very recently have those two faded and Sanders had made some movement. This isn't that complicated.

They changed a couple things, and want to make sure it is right. With the nuts and conspiracy theorists and people who love to play the victim, that kinda makes sense.

Again, no results yet. So your claim falls apart.
Um, precincts are reporting right now. :screwy

It's a long way to go, so anything can happen, but we're seeing results right now.

New Hampshire will be much more fun to follow than this.
