So based on the totality of the arguments presented by Trump's Defense Team in the Senate regarding foreign election interference and Presidential Prerogative we are now officially the United States of AmeriKa.

A couple of election cycles of GOP control of the Senate, 8 straight years of GOP control of the House ended by the 116th Congress and one term of Orange Wild Man in the WH atop the mess started by Newt Gingrich who is enjoying a renaissance of his nonsense and we are effectively done.

Goodbye fair and free elections. See ya' Democracy. Hello Autocracy, Oligarchy and Kleptocracy.

Dersh should no longer claim to be a Dem or a Republican. He is a member of the newest Neo's, the Neo-creepy's. Their deity is Newt Gingrich and their current power mad leaders are Moscow Mitch McConnell and Donald Bozo Trump.

By the way, both the EU and the UK decided to slap DonDon across the face and allow Huawei to build out 5G Networks in the EU and UK. So much for respect for AmeriKa around the world. All of DonDon's idiot tariffs which we pay for and all of his other nonsense will end up a drop in the bucket compared to the financial and business opportunity that represents to China.

That DonDon respect for AmeriKa campaign is really working out isn't it.

Seems like nothing matters anymore. Corruption is primary force in GOP. If you don't get money out of politics America is only getting worse.

You are correct. The United States Constitution gave enormous power to the President and the Founding Fathers knew this which is why the instituted a system of legislative and judicial checks and balances. But this was before the country developed into a two-party country. This two-party system which was not envisioned has now come to destroy the republic and we are witnessing the President who does what he likes without any check from his party which he leads. He controls the Senate with his point man Mitch McConnell and his party have stacked the Supreme Court. Effectively, Donald Trump is an Electoral College appointed dictator for four years with a possibility of having that renewed later this year for another four years. It is a calamity.

It is all about power in AmeriKa now, raw power....not even political power but raw power. Its surely not a about deliberation. The so called "Greatest Deliberative Body in the World" is now a laughable joke.

Raw Power as a guiding governmental principle is the very definition of Autocracy, no matter what you wrap it in or try go cloak it in.

That is an odd take. I didn't say anywhere in that post that I was "pushing" for expanded business opportunities for China. Getting tired of posters putting works in my mouth.

Quite obviously I pointed out that the EU and UK simply told DonDon to go crap in his hat and gave Huawei big percentages of their 5G buildout. The EU only offering to its members that it should be "cautious" while spending billions with Haiwei. Be cautious.....ah-huh. The UK for its part just pulled down its pants ad bent over.

Then again, I was never fully convinced of DonDon's commitment to US and Western Telecom relative to Huawei in spite of his stated position. Once he figures out how to make a buck for himself off of it, Huawei will suddenly become an example of corporate good behavior to be admired.

I'm certainly no fan of Trump but this kind of exaggerated rhetoric and silly word games don't do you argument any favours and can only serve to increase the problems of division and political extremism.

Neither....they are a tax and they do what all taxes do and my comments about tariffs are that all of Trumpkins tariffs combined will not overcome the business opportunity represented by UK and EU 5G build outs.

By the way we are sucking on everybody's tailpipes with regard to 5G. Of course Trumpettes probably think cable TV is new technology.

Let not get off topic into a discussion of what tariffs do or don't do. Threatening the EU with new tariffs certainly did not stop them from accepting Huahei with open arms.

The basic premise of the argument doucheowitz made was this:

The president can order investigations into political rivals so long as the president feels he or whoever his party's candidate is, would be "better" for the nation, than whoever is running.

This is the most dangerous, precarious threat to our democracy. I've never thought I would live to see an American lawyer make this argument for an American president in our senate.

I don't care which party you're in. This will enable abuse the likes of which we have never seen. It will muddy the waters with further fake information.

It's not rhetoric. Read my above. That is the literal argument the president is putting forward.

He can order investigations based strictly off the concept of absolute immunity (something no one agrees with) and the principal of who the president thinks is best for the country.

That DIRECTLY REFUTES the authority of we the people to choose who is best for the country. It usurps authority from congress to do oversight.

This literally flies in the face of our entire principal of government.

he's not a dictator, he was voted in per the rules and if he continues to be president, he will be voted in per the rules.

removing someone who was correctly voted in by his constituents is why it should be hard to remove such a person.
