Romney's getting some heat from his constituents, but the Dems are warming up to him.

Republican support of Mitt Romney falls, poll shows - The Salt Lake Tribune

Which is hilarious considering the trashing he got from the Dems when he ran for pres. Dragging the dog? Bully in grade school?
The Never Trumpers are losing popularity every year.
C'mon Mitt, get over it.

I laughed out loud when Mitt said that he was going to run for president. He didn't have a clue to what the media and Democrat machine was going to do to him.

He was a lamb trying to compete with rabid wolves.

I'm going to take a guess and say you're a Trump diehard.

I don't hate or love the man. I do like and dislike some of his policies.

Why can't people admit that anymore?

I hope some of those radicalized leftists here will answer you. At least your lean is accurate.

I, seriously, doubt that even the most extreme leans can honestly say there isn't at least one or two issues they don't agree with from their party. They just won't talk about it. I've never agreed with anyone 100% about everything.

Nope No one honestly can.

Actually, the OP doesn't like Mitt because he sees him as a weak link into possible witnesses in the impeachment trial. He's trying to squelch that before it starts.

I'm not sure why he's that worried though. Republican politicians have tucked tail and are subservient to Donald Trump. The New York City con man has beat them all down. Trump is like their pimp.

Because you could be a die hard Democrat but if you decide you want to defend any Trump decision you become (X) overnight.

You need look no further than Alan Dershowitz to figure this out.

Dershowitz is literally arguing to completely upend the power balance in washington.

He contradicts himself, makes himself look foolish, and argues for monarchical power at the executive level.

This nis a global embarassment, and our democratic republic will not recover from this for some time.

I realize how far over your head his argument is so I won't waste any time here.

His argument was garbage. Pure garbage. And undemocratic. It's unpatriotic garbage. The man is a mockery and will be known forever for destroying the separation of powers and enabling an insanely unhinged executive.

No. Folks like me are suspicious of the goddamned unitary nonsense. I do not worship presidents.

This will not end well, Condor060. Then again, you guys are always chasing the little ball, ignoring what's on the horizon. Typical GOP mindset.

I supported Trump on some issues and opposed him on others. Just like every other president in my lifetime. It's no secret that I don't like Trump. I don't like the man, the in your face personality, his obnoxious and uncouth persona. With his temper tantrums and name calling like a five year old kid who's parents forgot to teach him any manners make be think Trump belongs more in the WWE as a wrestler than in the White House.

I think Trump's distasteful personality caused the Republicans the House much more than his policies. That it is that same persona that may cause him to lose in 2020, not what he has or hasn't done policy wise as president. It's the man himself I don't like. I didn't vote for him in 2016, I voted third party against both Trump and Clinton. I won't vote for him in 2020 either. I just don't like the man. I could support or be for every thing he has done or tried to do 100%, but I still couldn't vote for him. But that doesn't mean I'm an automatic vote for the democratic nominee either. That depends on who they nominate. Nominate someone I like, I'll vote for him. Nominate someone I don't, it's third party again in 2020.

In my opinion, it's Trump dreadful personality that has kept his approval rating at or below 45%, if he had the persona of a Reagan, his approval rating would be 10 points higher and be cruising to reelection. I think this is proven by 55% approving Trump's handling of the economy, but only 44% in the overall job approval. Why? It's not the job he's doing, it is his personality.

His claim is abuse of power is not an impeachable charge to remove a president and if we decide that it is, every time one party doesn't like another parties policies, they can just claim abuse of power and remove a president.

Which would mean if we decide this is the new bar for removal, no president will ever serve out their term and he is right.

If this is the new bar for removal then Obama using his phone and a pen to avoid voting for laws and just making executive decisions is abuse of power.

You are just angry because Trump will be acquitted.

No, abuse of power in this case should result in removal, because it will set an exceedingly dangerous precedent. An exceedingly dangerous one.

Did you even listen to Dershowitz?

I figured he would be acquitted; I did not think the argument would be set forth that the president can do these things and it's not only constitutional, it's MORAL to do so.

Unbelievable.

Every Republican is Tweety, from dogcatcher to Romney. Vote against.

I think Dershowitz is trying to be a patriot by defending the Constitution. He is normally very left and probably not a big Trump fan. And of course CNN tried to, unsuccessfully, break his argument down today.

I don't like Trump but that would not affect my choice, because I have to judge him by his ability. I hate his war on the poor and probably will not vote for him, unless he changes his position some on this issue. I found few Presidents in my time that have much character, except for Jimmy Carter, who was a terrible POTUS.

I actually watched Dershowitz on CNN. It was like they were blaming him for representing Trump.

Each individual votes due their own personal reasons. Some reason will seem asinine to you or me. But they are important to each voter. For me, Trump doesn't belong in the White House. In 2016 I decided neither did Hillary Clinton as I voted against both. I'm not comfortable with Trump as president, I have been with every other president during my life time regardless of party. So I won't vote for him in 2020 either.

I think Trump's obnoxcious, in your face persona bothers independents whereas Republicans ignore it preferring to concentrate on what Trump has done or hasn't done, his policies. Independents aren't necessarily that way. For a lot of them the presidential election is a beauty contest. Going back through history I found independents tend to vote for the candidate with the most charisma. Less on party, policy and stances on the issues. After all, elections in a way are nothing more than beauty contests with each voter viewing each candidate through their own eyes.
