State Dept. Will Not Allow NPR Reporter on Pompeo’s Plane Following Interview

State Dept. Will Not Allow NPR Reporter on Pompeo’s Plane Following Interview - The New York Times

Diplomatic correspondents said the move appeared to retaliate against NPR for an interview that pressed Mr. Pompeo on his role in the Trump administrations shadow foreign policy in Ukraine.

WASHINGTON The State Department will not allow NPRs diplomatic correspondent on Secretary of State Mike Pompeos government airplane for an upcoming trip, which includes a stop in Ukraine, following the secretarys extraordinary outburst last week over being questioned about Ukraine during an interview with the network.

Michele Kelemen, who has covered the State Department for nearly two decades, was scheduled to cover Mr. Pompeos official visit this week to Europe and Central Asia, traveling with the diplomatic delegation.

NPR should stick to local news and bands and Wait Wait Don't Tell Me. Leave the real news to the big boys.

Pompeo is getting close to taking that armband out of the closet and putting it on in the morning.

Pompeo is Trumpolini's guy as everyone knows.

Deny freedom of speech by shutting down the press, that's one of the first steps towards fascism.

No, you just don't like that they provide actual quality journalism.

Go back to listening to community college drop out drug addicts on the radio that spew propaganda you agree with, it will keep you angry!

Or maybe knowingly reporting information that is off the record just to take a shot is the real fascism.

NPR (National Public Radio) is a nonprofit organization that produces and distributes news, talk, cultural programming, music and entertainment programs. NPR doesn't have big conglomerate owners like other networks. They're not beholding to billionaires like Rupert Murdock. a large portion of NPRs revenue comes from dues and fees paid by member stations and by corporate sponsorships. (most of its member stations are owned by government entities (often public universities) NPR receives less than 1 percent of its total funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting(CPB). Other sources of revenue include institutional grants, individual contributions and fees paid by users of the Public Radio Satellite System.

Just so you know, NPR has never failed a fact check. How many networks can boast about that? A Harris telephone survey conducted in 2005 found that NPR was the most trusted news source in the United States. According to 2009, NPR statistics, about 20.9 million listeners tune into NPR each week. By 2017, NPR's weekly on-air audience had reached 30.2 million.

One of the best things about NPR is that in contrast with commercial broadcasting, NPR's radio broadcasts do not carry traditional commercials. So you will never have to sit through Marie Osmond advertising Nutrisystem or the My Pillow guy. Oh, and NPR does not do local news.
