State Dept. Will Not Allow NPR Reporter on Pompeo’s Plane Following Interview - The New York Times

Diplomatic correspondents said the move appeared to retaliate against NPR for an interview that pressed Mr. Pompeo on his role in the Trump administration’s shadow foreign policy in Ukraine.

WASHINGTON — The State Department will not allow NPR’s diplomatic correspondent on Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s government airplane for an upcoming trip, which includes a stop in Ukraine, following the secretary’s extraordinary outburst last week over being questioned about Ukraine during an interview with the network.

Michele Kelemen, who has covered the State Department for nearly two decades, was scheduled to cover Mr. Pompeo’s official visit this week to Europe and Central Asia, traveling with the diplomatic delegation.

NPR can buy her a plane ticket to meet him there.

Maybe this will prompt that reporter to not act like a **** in the future.

NPR should stick to local news and bands and Wait Wait Don't Tell Me. Leave the real news to the big boys.

Pompeo is getting close to taking that armband out of the closet and putting it on in the morning.

Pompeo is Trumpolini's guy as everyone knows.

Everyone.

Deny freedom of speech by shutting down the press, that's one of the first steps towards fascism.

No, you just don't like that they provide actual quality journalism.

Go back to listening to community college drop out drug addicts on the radio that spew propaganda you agree with, it will keep you angry!

Or maybe knowingly reporting information that is off the record just to take a shot is the real fascism.

NPR (National Public Radio) is a nonprofit organization that produces and distributes news, talk, cultural programming, music and entertainment programs. NPR doesn't have big conglomerate owners like other networks. They're not beholding to billionaires like Rupert Murdock. a large portion of NPR’s revenue comes from dues and fees paid by member stations and by corporate sponsorships. (most of its member stations are owned by government entities (often public universities) NPR receives less than 1 percent of its total funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting(CPB). Other sources of revenue include institutional grants, individual contributions and fees paid by users of the Public Radio Satellite System.

Just so you know, NPR has never failed a fact check. How many networks can boast about that? A Harris telephone survey conducted in 2005 found that NPR was the most trusted news source in the United States. According to 2009, NPR statistics, about 20.9 million listeners tune into NPR each week. By 2017, NPR's weekly on-air audience had reached 30.2 million.

One of the best things about NPR is that in contrast with commercial broadcasting, NPR's radio broadcasts do not carry traditional commercials. So you will never have to sit through Marie Osmond advertising Nutrisystem or the My Pillow guy. Oh, and NPR does not do local news.

KELLY: Moments later, the same staffer who had stopped the interview reappeared, asked me to come with her - just me, no recorder, though she did not say we were off the record, nor would I have agreed. I was taken to the secretary's private living room, where he was waiting and where he shouted at me for about the same amount of time as the interview itself had lasted.

He was not happy to have been questioned about Ukraine. He asked, do you think Americans care about Ukraine? He used the F word in that sentence and many others. He asked if I could find Ukraine on a map. I said yes. He called out for his aides to bring him a map of the world with no writing, no countries marked. I pointed to Ukraine. He put the map away. He said people will hear about this. And then he turned and said he had things to do. And I thanked him, again, for his time and left.

Nobody is shutting her down. She is free to travel anywhere ... on her dime ... and free to publish whatever she wants.

What the **** are you talking about, they are the most nonbiased news source there is.

BBC is the only one even close...

What if any other president had shut down Fox in that way, because they didn't like one of the Fox interviews? Would you be so understanding then?

Yes; reporters are not entitled to a free flight.

Many Americans are sick of the daily impeachment try by both the Democrats and the media. Some of the media are honest. But not NPR reporter what is now angry she caused herself to be not allowed to fly for free. She has to pay her own airfare.

You tickled my memory to back to Obama when he did that to FOX. Anyone else recall this?

Pompeo is a liar, they all are.

First she says the Staffer stopped the interview. Then she says she ended up in a private office where he gave her a lesson in cussing.

She had to realize what she did really hurt him and so he lashed back. She is no hero.
