State Dept. Will Not Allow NPR Reporter on Pompeo’s Plane Following Interview

KELLY: Moments later, the same staffer who had stopped the interview reappeared, asked me to come with her - just me, no recorder, though she did not say we were off the record, nor would I have agreed. I was taken to the secretary's private living room, where he was waiting and where he shouted at me for about the same amount of time as the interview itself had lasted.

He was not happy to have been questioned about Ukraine. He asked, do you think Americans care about Ukraine? He used the F word in that sentence and many others. He asked if I could find Ukraine on a map. I said yes. He called out for his aides to bring him a map of the world with no writing, no countries marked. I pointed to Ukraine. He put the map away. He said people will hear about this. And then he turned and said he had things to do. And I thanked him, again, for his time and left.

NPR CEO Defends Journalist After Pompeo Lashes Out Over Ukraine Interview : NPR

Pompeo is a liar, they all are.

Any reporter traveling with WH administration staff knows EXACTLY when they are on the record and when they are not. If this reporter is too stupid to know the difference then she doesn't need to be on that mission.

NPR (National Public Radio) is a nonprofit organization that produces and distributes news, talk, cultural programming, music and entertainment programs. NPR doesn't have big conglomerate owners like other networks. They're not beholding to billionaires like Rupert Murdock. a large portion of NPR’s revenue comes from dues and fees paid by member stations and by corporate sponsorships. (most of its member stations are owned by government entities (often public universities) NPR receives less than 1 percent of its total funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting(CPB). Other sources of revenue include institutional grants, individual contributions and fees paid by users of the Public Radio Satellite System.

Just so you know, NPR has never failed a fact check. How many networks can boast about that? A Harris telephone survey conducted in 2005 found that NPR was the most trusted news source in the United States. According to 2009, NPR statistics, about 20.9 million listeners tune into NPR each week. By 2017, NPR's weekly on-air audience had reached 30.2 million.

One of the best things about NPR is that in contrast with commercial broadcasting, NPR's radio broadcasts do not carry traditional commercials. So you will never have to sit through Marie Osmond advertising Nutrisystem or the My Pillow guy. Oh, and NPR does not do local news.

The rabid right never listens to NPR, so they have no idea of the quality of the information they would get if they did. So they will listen to uneducated hate mongers instead because they need to feed their hate.

Deny freedom of speech by shutting down the press, that's one of the first steps towards fascism.

^ ^Can't make it up...

Reporter flying commercial = Isn't denying freedom of the press anymore than Trump is LITERALLY Hitler

Incredible that this must be explained...

:hm

They certaonly have no idea who the late Jim Lehrer is

Nobody has said that "Trump is LITERALLY Hitler". Hitler was intelligent and competent, a dangerous combination in someone wanting to control the entire world. Trump is barely literate and can't even control his own Twitter feed.

Control of access is the first step of press control by a state.

All these stories just go to prove how unbelievably sad and weak Republicans are.

Or maybe it’s because the information is biased and the stuff that isn’t is boring.

Hitler = Better Tweeter

Genghis Khan = The Master of Instagram

I used to watch McNeil/Lehrer with my dad all the time. PBS/NPR are quality news stations. That is why the rabid faction of the right hate them.

Censorship is the goal of Trump and his cohorts in crime and NPR is their target for questioning their motives.

I enjoyed working at KUAF an NPR station on the University of Arkansass a lot more than working at a conservative radio station KURM in Rogers, Arkansass...

I have a relative that is a reporter at an NPR station, he was a TV and radio reporter for Armed Forces Network when he was stationed in Afghanistan and Japan, he frequently covers veterans issues. He is just part time now, but should be full time soon, he has already won a national reporting award while in college getting his Master's degree as part of a reporting series the group he was in, and they also won a regional emmy award for the same college project. Much better place to work than I-Heartless Radio which has been on a huge purge of talent lately. The kicker is that his NPR station is the #1 in the market for news/talk, crushing I-Heart (Limbaugh, Hannity) and all the other talk stations. The Salem station (Gorka, Hewitt, Prager) and the station with Ingraham and Savage don't even show up in the ratings, they have less than a 0.1 share.

NPR is doing fine, they are worth supporting.

I worked for them in the later eighties as an announcer/broadcaster they were great to work with and very professional in demeanor.

Maybe this will prompt that reporter to not act like a **** in the future.
The journalist was doing her job. Pompeo was upset by that.

NPR should stick to local news and bands and Wait Wait Don't Tell Me. Leave the real news to the big boys.
You clearly have no idea of what you’re talking about. NPR is one of the best and most respected resources for Americans who want properly vetted and as close to unbiased as possible, news.

NPR is traditional news, not partisan ideological news. In traditional news there actually is a correct answer and there is no gray area. Another reason why the 'rabid right' hate them.

My favorite part is that they do extensive international stories, and long-form stories. That is a lost art on commercial radio.

Nobody is shutting her down. She is free to travel anywhere ... on her dime ... and free to publish whatever she wants.

Of course you’d feel exactly the same way if a Dem administration did the same thing.
