Kobe Bryant sexual assault reminder

In July 2003 Kobe Bryant thought he could take advantage of a young latina because he was a big star and she was a low-level 19-year-old worker. This young woman took on enormous courage to accuse someone of sexual assault with a massive power imbalance. The sexual assault likely got violent as her blood was found on Kobe's shirt. She had vaginal trauma, which our slut-shaming justice system claimed was from being promiscuous.

Now back to your regularly-scheduled mourning. I wouldn't want to interrupt the Kobe dirge to talk too much bout a young woman whose life was never the same and distract from the squeaky shoes star.

I agree it is very inappropriate to talk about this today.

In the days that follow when people comment on the legacy that Kobe left both on and off the basketball court the alleged sexual assault should be part of that discussion, because it for better or worse is part of his legacy. However today is not the day for that. Today is a day to keep the Bryant family in our thoughts while they cope with their loss.

They have confirmed Kobe, his daughter, and a college basketball coach whose name I didn't catch.

Rumors suggest that at least 2 of the passengers were a teammate of Kobe's daughter, and a parent. They were supposedly going to an away game of Kobe's daughter's basketball team.

I have a feeling their importance will not matter, at least not to the media. As sad as I am that Kobe and his daughter have died, I am equally sad for the unnamed, media insignificant victims of this tragedy. The importance of celebrities and sports figures in this Country I find very odd. Death is death. Having just lost a very special person in my life to cancer and knowing he gave his all to a nationwide charity, makes me very disillusioned with the importance that money, and status gets you in this Country.

The only ones they name were Kobe and his daughter Gigi. Another girl, friend to Gigi, and the girl's mother were not identified by name.

Bad timing and not really necessary since the case was settled out of court by two adults and basically went away.
