Fact Checking The Senate Republican Impeachment Trial Defense Team

There’s a 100% chance that their defense depends on the calendar stopping on September 24, the day the first (edited) call memorandum was released. I doubt any of the defense will acknowledge the existence of any of the witness testimony from the House Hearings.

The defense will be pure gas lighting and lying.

Online is good, but I would prefer them to keep tabs on the chyron. If these guys are going to lie, which they will assuredly do frequently, let viewers know in real time.

One idea that I’ve never seen implemented is putting everything that Republicans (particularly Trump) on a ten minute delay so that such chyrons can be made. The problem is that once a lie has been told, it’s extremely difficult to undo it. Fact checking the lie after it’s already been told isn’t actually all that effective, so by showing interviews and statements from Republicans live, cable news outlets are effectively complicit in spreading disinformation.

CNN "fact" check?

Really?

Let's look at the ONLY "fact check" provided by CNN in the cited article.

White House counsel Pat Cipollone alleged that Democrats are asking Americans to “remove President Trump from the ballot” in the 2020 election and “tear up all of the ballots.”

CNN states:

If the Senate does vote to convict Trump, it does not automatically disqualify him from holding future public office.

But that's not what Cipollone said. He said "They are trying to remove him from the ballot" (we can ignore the "tear up all the ballots" as hyperbole).

Yet CNN also says:

In their Articles of Impeachment, the House Democrats said... "President Trump thus warrants impeachment and trial, removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust, or profit under the United States."

That they ARE seeking to disqualify Trump from running in 2020.

CNN even admits it:

Democrats however have said that Trump’s actions do warrant disqualification...Conviction in an impeachment trial requires the support of two-thirds of the Senate. Disqualification requires only a simple post-conviction majority.

Score one for Cipollone. :coffeepap:

Read the fact check more slowly. They were correct and Cipollone was wrong.

Right now, Trump is trying to overturn the laws that ban bribery overseas. Think about that for a minute. He wants people to be able to legally go over to other countries and bribe them. Clearly Trump isn't the 'corruption fighter' his legal team is trying to make him out to be.

As expected, the defense argument was very brief. They presented weak arguments on inconsequential facts but not on any of the hard evidence and all they did was complain about the process.

Read the fact check for comprehension, because IMHO reading "slowly" doesn't seem to be working based on your response. :coffeepap:

And bitch about Schiff’s re-enactment of the phone call again.

It’s easy to present a terrible defense when:

1)You don’t care about legacy, and
2)You already know ahead of time that the jury is going to acquit even if your defense consists of belching to the tune of “What a Wonderful World.”

The only thing Cipollone proved today is the need for witnesses.

There is no such thing as "Senate Republican Impeachment Trial Defense".

Yes...it's in the Senate. No...there is no "Senate Republican Impeachment Trial". The "Defense" is the "WH Defense Team"...which includes Democrats.

But hey...it sounds good to your bias to spin things this way, doesn't it.

btw, if I want updates...as opposed to watching myself...I surely won't go to CNN talking potato heads.

Please name the democrats on the presidents defense team?

Mitch McConnell's White House Coordination Admission Was a 'Big Tactical Error,' MSNBC Host Says

then why did McConnell do this?

This is nothing more than a pitch by democrats to influence the 2020 election using taxpayer money to muddy up their opponent.

CNN fact checking? Maybe they should start with Schiff.

That's an argument for the President being a king.

AP FACT CHECK: Trump'''s impeachment defense and the facts

Here's a good fact check. The presidents lawyers are simply lying un plenty of cases.

I'm not sure what the strategy here is beyond murking the waters up so 4 Republicans can escape scrutiny.

Here's the dig. 70% of americans think there should be witnesses and documents. The majority of americans want a fair trial. A fair trial to americans includes witnesses and documents.

If the Republicans go against this, then chomsky will be totally correct. The public will revolt but we will have a dictator.

We have yet to hear from Trump's defense about the comment by Adam Schiff that CBS News reported that a Trump confidant said that GOP senators were warned .... "vote against the president and your head will be on a pike."

Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Ben Johnson and other republicans instantly grasped their pearls and were outraged. 'How dare he!'. They will all use that as an excuse to vote against having any witnesses or to get documents. After days and many hours of presenting a step by step factual account of abuse of power, these idiots will take that as an excuse --not a reason -- but an excuse to give Trump a pass.

Trump's own tweet from 3 hours ago shows that the CBS report was accurate as far as how Trump operates. As I've said dozens of times here, I've known about Trump for 30 years or more. I know he's a racketeer and a thug. How do thugs operate? They threaten, that's how. Intimidation and threatening is the racketeering way of getting what they want and to get others to do what he wants them to do.

Screenshot_2020-01-25 Donald J Trump ( realDonaldTrump) Twitter.png

Let's not forget what Trump did to Jeff Sessions, Jeff Flake, and Justin Amash. About Justin Amash, he tweeted "Great news for the Republican Party as one of the dumbest & most disloyal men in Congress is 'quitting' the Party,"

Trump doesn't reserve his venom and personal attacks just for his enemies like Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Adam Schiff, he will aim to destroy anyone that goes against him, even if it's a 16 year old girl Greta Thunberg. Yes, the 'head on a pike' comment sounds exactly what Trump would do to any republican senator that dared to cross him. That's what a racketeer does.
