This is a shameful display of arrogance on the part of the GOP. Because of Trump's guilty, Republicans are forced to lie to the American people and distort the impeachment proceedings.

Rep. Debbie Lesko, R-AZ. wrote an Op/Ed for Fox News. In it, she wrote, "It seems the seven impeachment managers have conveniently forgotten many of the facts surrounding their deeply flawed case for impeachment. They began by crying out for witnesses, witnesses they could have called in the House, and asking the Senate to do their job for them."

She conveniently left out the fact that court battle with the White House could last months, years even as shown by the House managers today. For example, the House subpoenaed Don McGahn in April. They are still waiting for his testimony.

Debbie also conveniently left out the reason for the months long delay. Trump is flaunting Congress. He is the first President in our history to defy Congressional subpoenas. Debbie didn't want to talk about that. Instead, she lied by omission.

Then she said, "The call transcript shows zero link between aid and political investigations." Here she is talking to Trump's base and assuming they are all morons. From his withholding military aid approved by Congress to ‘I would like you to do us a favor though" to asking Zelensky to investigate the Bidens, there is a distinct link even a moron would know. Does a thief have to tell you "This is a robery" for you to know the gun weiling robber is stealing your wallet?

She then wrote, "The aid was released without any commitment to new investigations." Yes, that is true, months later, on Sept. 11, after Trump got caught. The whistle blower lodged his complaint in August, and by Sept. 9, the House Intelligence Committee had launched a full-fledged investigation into the July 25 call.

Debbie continued, "Ukraine did not know aid was withheld at the time of the July 25 phone call." That is a clear lie. Testimony from several witnesses indicated that the Ukrainians knew about the withheld military aid by July 25. Isn't Debbie listening to the testimony she is lying about?

Last, but not least, Debbie wrote, "President Trump and President Zelensky have both repeatedly said that there was no pressure. In fact, there are multiple Ukrainian officials on the record saying there was no pressure and no link between the aid and investigations." Once again, she is assuming the reader is a complete fool. No Ukrainian official in his right mind wants to piss off the mercurial American President. The security of their nation, at war with Russia, is dependent upon U.S. aid. Apparently, Debbie didn't know that. Nearly everyone else does.

How did this pathetic woman ever get elected?

Rep. Debbie Lesko: What impeachment managers in Trump'''s Senate trial seem to be forgetting | Fox News

I was going to respond with something like, "Awww...do you need a hanky and a puppy?" But that seemed too much like a DBAJ violation, so that's not my response.

Instead, I'll just point out that "do us a favor" is not the same thing as "do me a favor".

Nancy was too scared to file suit directly against Trump on the issue. Too bad. Now she loses.

"Instead, I'll just point out that "do us a favor" is not the same thing as "do me a favor"."

Uh-huh. So, in your mind, investigating a debunked conspiracy theory concerning an election three years ago and Trump's chief rival is in the interests of the American people, or "us."

Do you really think that? If so, that says a lot about you.

Put a different way, if this nonsense is a part of Trump's defense, the President is in a heap of trouble. It is sorta like saying the call was "perfect" and he didn't do anything wrong when he invited foreign interference in our Presidential elections for the second time. I would suppose you think that is okay, too.

This is a continuation of regime cleavage. Impeachment exists for a reason; timely removal of an unfit or dangerous president.

What the Republicans are doing now is simply assaulting the process and purposefully muddying the waters to keep their rabid base in line.

The house would not have brought these articles if they didnt sincerely believe trumps behavior was so egregious it merited removal immediately. Remember, trump is saying the dems should have went to court, but is also arguing Democrats have no authority to go to court. They're creating circular arguments which is ensuring people are confused about the process.

I am not sure that this is just gullibility. For a few it may be. For many though, this is just a criminal gang protecting each other. Most GOP senators and Trump’s base know that he’s a criminal as well, and and they know they are complicit and supporting him. Their response is just “so what?”

Well, America. So what? What are you going to do about it?

Nobody was "forced" they went with power for power's sake starting with Gingrich's push for a "permanent republican majority" and haven't looked back.

As an example Pompeo is totally melting down now. He is implying that NPR reporter Kelly DID NOT accurately identify Ukraine on an unmarked map he conveniently had in his office but instead incorrectly identified Bangladesh. Even I could not make that mistake and I am old as dirt for one thing and not as engaged in world geopolitical affairs as Kelly.

The Trump Administration is beyond unscrupulous and as their corrupt ineptitude become more obvious they are falling apart. Trump's defense team is falling apart. Pompeo is falling apart. Barr is just trying to keep his head below the grass line for now. Mulvaney has already melted down.

Trump is in big trouble. Most likely he won't be removed by the Senate dominated by Trump Republicans bent on a cover-up, but he will be removed by the American people.

Trump's lawyers began their defense today and it was based upon absurd assertions. They defended Trump by avoiding all the detailed evidence of the past three days and arguing it’s the Democrats trying to interfere in elections by seeking to remove Trump from the 2020 ballot for doing “absolutely nothing wrong.”

“For all their talk about election interference, they're here to perpetrate the most massive interference in an election in American history,” Cipollone said in his opening remarks to the Senate. “And we can't allow that to happen."

Cipollone added, “They're asking you to do something that no Senate has ever done and they're asking you to do it with no evidence. And that's wrong.”

His lawyers also argued that the Democrats want to overturn the results of the 2016 election in which the American people chose Trump.

That will be the foundation of Trump's defense? His lawyers will pretend the massive amount of evidence provided during the past three days didn't happen? "They're asking you to do it with no evidence." Moreover, their assertions are a total farce.

No one is suggesting turning over the results of the 2016 election other than Trump himself with his impeachable acts. The majority of American voters did not choose Trump. Today, the majority of Americans disapprove of Trump and want him removed from office. Why? Because of Trump's impeachable offenses, not what the Democrats are doing. This argument is made strictly for Trump's base. No one else will believe it.

"The Democrats trying to interfere in elections by seeking to remove Trump from the 2020 ballot for doing “absolutely nothing wrong.'" Nothing could be more farcical. Again, because Trump invited foreign interference in our Presidential election for his benefit and used bribery on a foreign leader as incentive. Trump admits this himself. It is in the text of his July25 call. It is Trump who is removing himself from 2020 ballot.

Trump's lawyers are basing their defense on ignoring everything Trump did, and then saying there is no evidence.

His lawyers are basing their defense on the premise that Americans are stupid.

Republican lawmakers are NOT coerced to lie to the American people.

They REJOICE in the act.

not really forced, but they will probably lose their seats if they miss their daily (hourly?) Tweety ass kiss. pucker up!

No lies, just your woefully inadequate understanding of our government. Just because "it would take a long time" is no excuse for Congress to not follow the law. Had they DONE that, the witnesses and documents they seem to feel are critical to their case would either be in their possession or they'd have been legally denied. Don't blame the right for the abject incompetence of the House.

Understand Congress and the President are co-equal branches of government, Congress is not superior to the President. Did the Dems think it would take any less time to waste a month before delivering the Articles and THEN fight in the Senate to get subpoenas passed and THEN fight the legal battles?

Oh, and Trump is not the first President to butt heads with Congress over executive privilege.

Nor is it the same as "do the damn investigation or you're never get the missiles".

Nancy was too scared to file suit directly against Trump on the issue. Too bad. Now she loses.

I'm becoming more and more convinced that the Dems don't give a crap about the impeachment, they're just trying to drag this on and on because they think it will hurt Trump in the election.

The scores of witnesses and the whitehouse's own released transcripts were, and are, more than enough to impeach and remove.

Everything else is just evidence that's going to eventually come out one way or the other. Already the Lev Parnas tapes and the Trump recordings on Yovanovitch have come out since the impeachment. More is on the way. The GOP would be wise not to block things now, because it's going to make them look less like the bunch of crooks and mobsters that they are when it does.

LOL, not even close. Wishful thinking does not comprise evidence.

LOL, the Parnas tape means squat. Trump has the power to dismiss an ambassador for any reason, or for no reason.
