Did Adam Schiff just thank the senators for paying attention during these long days and then remind them that it probably helps that the Sergeant at Arms reminds them every morning that they'll be arrested if they don't?

I'm just listening to the C-Span feed so I may not have it exactly right but that's sure what it sounded like.

Sounds like a bit of humor, what's wrong with it?

It didn't sound like he was chuckling! It actually sounded like a thinly veiled warning based on news reports that some senators left early yesterday.

Given that he has no power over what the sergeant at arms does, I don't see how your assertion is credible.

From what I've read it's not "jail" but they are held in contempt somewhere.

The senate rules prohibit using electronic devices, standing up, reading anything not connected to impeachment or talking to other members during the proceedings.

I would have paid good money to see the Sergeant at Arms hit Dianne Feinstein with a flying tackle and put her in a chicken wing arm lock as he frog matched her back into the chamber.....and force fed Jolt Cola to James Risch through a nasal feeding tube.

I'm waiting for the transcript to post. I can find where he said it but when I click the "show full text" link it just runs me to the top of the page - Senate Impeachment Trial, Day 4 | C-SPAN.org

Theoretically, the text would be at that 7:06 marker

Do they still make Jolt Cola? I figured they just drank Red Bull or, if they REALLY wanted to stay awake, Mountain Dew.

Please tell me this just more hamfisted sarcasm.

Otherwise, it is the most idiotically and snowflakey attempt to complain about a targeted Democrat that I've heard in quite sometime. Threatening them indeed.... :doh

Its not a joke I would make or consider funny, but a joke is the only sane way to interpret this.

just use the search term arms to find it in Luthor's link.

That's because at the start of each day, the Sargent at Arms says, “Hear ye! Hear ye! Hear ye! All persons are commanded to keep silent, on pain of imprisonment.”

True.

This is just an exercise in redundancy. I already hold all Republicans in contempt.

Oh, I'm sure what Schiff said was a lame attempt at humor.

I find Lutherf's interpretation to be ludicrous and almost certainly driven by partisanship. Unless he intended it as sarcastic bad joke about a bad joke, but I doubt that.

I am annoyed that senators of all stripes are not sitting still. This is serious business.

So, basically, Swalwell needs to watch his bean intake if he's going to show up.

LOL, you're hilarious...

He needed to say something to try to keep people awake and interested in this snoozefest. Mad props for being one of the 10 Americans not in the media who are actually listening in.

This is the only thing I could find, though I'm still looking.

"Schiff opens with acknowledgment of the House managers’ repetition"
Amid growing complaints from Republicans that House managers are being repetitive, Schiff opened his presentation Thursday by acknowledging in advance that there would be some repetition ahead.

“I must ask you for some forbearance,” Schiff said. “There will be some repetition of information from yesterday’s chronology, and I want to explain the reason.”

Schiff said Wednesday’s presentation represented a detailed narrative of Trump’s misconduct toward Ukraine drawn from hours of depositions and live testimony in House proceedings.

“We will now show you these facts and many others and how they are interwoven,” Schiff said. “You will see some of these facts and videos, therefore, in a new context, in a new light, in the light of what else we know and why it compels a finding of guilt and conviction. So there is some method to our madness.”
