trump lied in 2016 he won't cut Social Security and Medicare. Oddly, he now admits he will.

As much as trump lies, oddly, sometimes he tells the truth when is makes little sense. He said he wouldn't cut Social Security or Medicare to get elected; now, oddly, he says (to the billionaires in Davos who want them cut) he will cut them, to the shock of no one, if he's re-elected.

Which is why I don't believe half of what any politician/candidate says. They all pander to what people want to hear.

Are you asserting that, as in the story, that Social Security is an entitlement?

At least Trump admits he is going to try to balance the budget, something democrats apparently do not know should be done.

KERNEN: Do I dare— one last question.

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Go ahead.

KERNEN: Entitlements ever be on your plate?

TRUMP: At some point they will be. We have tremendous growth. We're going to have tremendous growth. This next year I—it'll be toward the end of the year. The growth is going to be incredible. And at the right time, we will take a look at that. You know, that's actually the easiest of all things, if you look, cause it's such a—

KERNEN: If you're willing—

TRUMP: —big percentage.

KERNEN: —to do some of the things that you said you wouldn't do in the past, though, in terms of Medicare—

TRUMP: Well, we're going—we're going to look....

He said no such thing.

"After a day of hobnobbing with billionaires in Davos, President Trump publicly revealed that cuts to earned Medicare and Social Security benefits will be on the table as soon as the end of this year," said Richard Fiesta, executive director of the Alliance for Retired Americans, in a statement. "The cruel irony of this scene cannot be overstated."

Again...he said no such thing.

Perhaps people need to be reminded again what Trump said: "And at the right time, we will take a look at that." "Well, we're going—we're going to look...."

He didn't say, "We are going to cut...blah, blah, blah...this year."

This is nothing more than Trump-hating spin, hyperbole and outright lying in action.

Translation: ignore what he said, I'll spin everything to avoid criticizing anything trump says or does.

No one takes your commentary seriously, mycroft.

Anyone who tries to mess with senior's Social Security and Medicare won't be in office.

You support lying spin by lying about what I said.

Nope. You never criticize trump. You wont do it. You cant do it. He said blatantly they are looking at it what the **** do you think that means?

Guy is a liar and a crook.

So you do just believe in "talk"

All of a sudden Trumpeters will forget it's the congress job to "Balance the budget"?

That's right
Partisanship, is a very strong thing

The only lies I hear are from Trump and his idiot fans. But of course in your star-struck eyes Trump can do no wrong, ever. If you had a shred of integrity you would admit he lies constantly..

And republicans saw to it when they passed the tax cuts that balancing the budget would be impossible in the short term. So now they want to take some of the money back from the retired community to pay for what they gave away to the wealthy. We've known this since Paul Ryan was still speaker.

Thank god elections have consequences. (2018)

These programs had issues however before this

US citizens are entitled to hear the truth from their president. As if that's ever likely under Trump.

Shouldn't the article be truthful too, or do you give the "press" a pass?

Frankly the press have more integrity and honesty than the thief, fraudster and serial liar (all documented and provable), you elected to 'lead' you-and that's saying something. You elected an unprincipled, immoral crook who views the law as an occupational hazard.

No. He didn't say they are "looking at it". He said they will be looking at it later. You just changed what he said into what you want people to believe he said. That's call lying and spinning.

And, what do I think that means? It means exactly what he said...later...toward the end of the year...he will be looking at it.

What it doesn't mean is that he is doing anything right now. What it doesn't mean is that he will be doing anything more than looking at it later. It doesn't mean "he's going to cut...blah, blah, blah".

So tell me...why do you want to be dishonest about what Trump said? Do you hate Trump so much that you'll eagerly lie about what he says?

Congress has been too busy for 3 years trying to remove Trump's name from the 2020 ballot to bother with actual legislation.

I certainly consider Social Security (SS) to be an entitlement program. Any government program which supplies only certain qualified (entitled?) persons with public funds (other than as reimbursement for goods/services provided, e.g. government contract workers) is an entitlement. The major difference between SNAP and SS is in who is deemed qualified (entitled?) to receive program benefits.
