Ben Shapiro is different in person than on his youtube channel

By the age of 20 he graduated summa cum laude from UCLA and then cum laude from Harvard Law.

A nationally syndicated columnist by 17, graduated from UCLA and authored 2 books before turning 21. I wonder how many that are questioning his intelligence has accomplished a quarter of what he has.

There's intelligence and there's "cool" intelligence. An intelligent person can convince people with creative arguments.

Thanks for the info. Saves a trip to Wikipedia.

Wait. Which serious critics has he refused to debate, AmNat?

Nick Fuentes and Spencer Morrison, for starters (both right-wing critics that Shapiro has responded to but refuses to debate).

There are also people on the left that he's refused to debate, who I'm told are serious intellectuals (unlike e.g. Cenk Uygur), though I can't vouch for that.

At the age of 20, I was working full time, living on my own, paying my own bills.

He's an ok writer - he at least knows his audience - but it's kinda baffling how much love he gets from you guys.

He's the epitome of an entitled millennial.

(For clarity, he and I are essentially the same age)

LOL! Well you look him up at one of his appearances and go ask him some question you would like to debate and prepare to be made to look stupid. Very smart guy and up to date on his facts.

Talking fast and going off on random tangents and extremities doesn't make one a good debator.

I must ask: what conservative public intellectual(s) would you admit to being a genuinely intelligent person(s) despite not agreeing with them?

Barry Goldwater and Mitt Romney.

And speaking as an apparent moron, I find him to be a smart man. At the very least, one does not generally get into UCLA and Harvard by being of low intelligence unless one has multi-millionaire parents.

For the record, I don't believe Ben Shapiro is a drooling dumbass. He is very smart in his own right, and having read a few of his works he's not a bad writer either.

My issue primarily is that Ben carries himself like he's some kind of conservative vanguard; that he's some highly respected intellectual on the front lines of the fight against liberalism, and shows off how smart he is by debating a bunch of first year sociology majors, which in the end consist of him talking really fast and dismissing any opposing views by going off on tangents without really addressing them.

And when he goes on and debates someone with some actual credit to their name, like Andrew Neil who's been a conservative longer than Ben Shapiro has been alive, he promptly gets torn apart and revealed for who he really is; a moderately intelligent, decently read man who fancies himself a highly regarded intellectual because he can out-talk some college kids. It's like if I claimed to be an Olympic Weight lifter because I can deadlift more than a 5th grader.

It isn't hard to find plenty of actual debates with Shapiro. If you search "Shapiro KTTH" you will find several decent debates.

Yeah, not really. Shapiro's reliance on strawmans and heaping random facts all over the place may sound well but it doesn't make for an actual good debate.

I doubt you watched any of those debates.

This is the question and answer part of one of his his talks. He makes money by giving talks at universities.

He seems like an alright guy. On his youtube channel, he seems so angry.

Anyone else notice this?

Shapiro is more honest and intelligent than some of the others on the conservative side like Candace Owens, the turning point guy with the big forehead, steven crowder (how do people listen to this obnoxious asshole?), but still at the end of the day he doesn't really impress me with any of his arguments. There have been a small handful of times where he's said something and I thought "that's interesting", but still most of the time he's the typical "look at how evil the left is" type of pundit that plays to the angry partisan side of the conservative movement.

I doubt you watched any of those debates.

I've seen enough Shapiro clips and videos to know what's he's about. I'm sorry I don't worship him like you do, but hey it's a free country.

Lol, Just admit you are a disingenuous hack. You complain about him debating college kids and when actual debates are pointed out to you then you suddenly "know what he is about" despite not actually watching any of his videos.

I've seen plenty of Ben Shapiro videos son. His fanboys love posting them instead of actual arguments. How long before you do the same?

Considering your posts, I highly doubt that. You say your primary issue is with him showing off against 1st year sociology majors but when I point out that there are plenty of videos of him in actual debates (some even with sociology professors) you fall back to "I know what he is about" routine despite not actually knowing anything.

Uh huh.

Do you get paid to defend Ben or are you working for free? Was it hard for you after he stormed out of a BBC interview because he got called out that badly?

Do you get paid to attack him? If so, your employer should get a refund as you do a piss poor job of it.

I have better things to do with my life then worry about what Ben Shapiro does with his, but apparently you really can't stand the idea of someone calling him out for his over reliance on strawmans, outdated statistics, and insults.

The funny thing is I don't even dislike Ben that much. Yeah his voice makes me wanna saw my own nads off with a kite string, but in the end he's just a dude who found his calling pandering to internet conservatives. I even felt bad for him a bit ago when that one alt-right douche harassed him and his family while they were out for a walk.

But please, continue to lash yourself to the defense of Benny like every other Shapiro fanboy who can't stand to have their idol insulted. It makes for cheap entertainment, at the very least.

If you keep this up, Shapiro might call you anti-semitic for criticising him.

For someone that supposedly cares about the use of strawmen, you seem to like to misrepresent other people's posts. Where have I said anything about the bolded? I took issue with your characterization of him debating college students which is simply false as those videos are simply clips of Q and As after his speeches and I pointed out where you can find actual debates he was involved in.

Clearly the insinuation that Ben Shapiro's debate credentials aren't as impressive as you'd like to think appears to have rattled you.

But since you want to insist on that point, let's ask: how many of those debates against professors and "experts" would you say he's won?

The only one that appears to be rattled is you, I don't particularly care how impressed you are by Shapiro. I just find the talk of he only "debates" college kids or that he is an idiot to be rather ignorant.

Most of the debates I have seen of his are largely on issues I already agree with him on so hard to say how much was bias and how much was his debate skills. On things I disagree with him on I don't find him to be particularly persuasive but that again could merely be my own bias.

Uh huh. Sure buddy.

Of course.

Ben Shapiro is a moron's idea of a smart man.

Well, you revealed yourself as being absurd.

That’s wonderful, and the beauty of free speech strikes again... which is why I encourage Leftists to post, and post often.

Keep up the good work.
