Praying in Jesus' name angers democrat lawmakers

Democrats may be a house divided, but they seem universally opposed to praying in Jesus' name. This Christian lawmaker opened a legislative session with a prayer and by the time she had mentioned Jesus several times in her prayer the democrats had become unhinged. They were especially outraged in sympathy with the new Black Muslim lawmaker there who was outraged by the prayer.

Democrats talk about America but their brand of America is not the same God Bless America we have traditionally recognized. Their brand of America is the unholy socialist atheistic "Goddamn America" the immoral democrats are out to create.

Democrats, Muslim lawmaker decry Christian prayer in Penn. House as divisive | The Times of Israel

On, noes! The War on Christmas is staring early this year!

Would you be OK if someone started with a prayer to Allah or Vishnu or Satan or FSM?

This is America. I have gotten used to the leftist barbarians praising and worshipping idols and evil and democrats encouraging that sort of thing.

Rambling for several minutes about a need for everyone to convert to Christianity and bow down to the Christian god was entirely inappropriate for the venue and occasion.

Why? Who are you to decide that?

Not an answer, would you be OK with it?

The War on Christmas is the only war that Republican politicians and the MAGAites will enlist their children to fight.

Someone who knows that proselytizing is not a legitimate function of government and has social graces unlike the rube who gave that invocation.

Well, others would disagree.

Keep your dumb 'faith' in church, well out of the way of normal people. Religion has NO place in politics-and as far as morality is concerned, and none of you self-righteous and sanctimonious 'christians' on this site have any idea what morality actually means. Your posts, and those of others, are clear evidence.

"I like your Christ but I don't like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ" Mahatma Mohandas Gandhi.

I take it you missed the real story in the news article, about the Muslim woman who was pushing her religion and was offended when the Christian prayed in Jesus; name. Everything about the big event of that day was supposed to be the big news that a Muslim woman was coming to town. She was offended, as were many others (mostly democrats), because a Christian woman came along and rained on her parade by praying in Jesus' name. You should remember that it was the House leadership which asked the Christian woman to pray.

Some guys named Jefferson and Madison said that.
This is an excerpt from Jefferson's famous letter to the Danbury Baptists,
Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties.

I reciprocate your kind prayers for the protection & blessing of the common father and creator of man, and tender you for yourselves & your religious association, assurances of my high respect & esteem.

Th Jefferson
Jan. 1. 1802.

When a bill officially incorporating an Episcopal church in Washington, D.C., reached President James Madison's desk one day in February of 1811, he knew just what to do: reach for a veto pen.

Madison was never one to tolerate any official ties between church and state. As he explained in a veto message to Congress, he rejected the church incorporation measure because it "exceeds the rightful authority to which governments are limited by the essential distinction between civil and religious functions."

It "violates in particular," said Madison, "the article of the Constitution of the United States which declares that 'Congress shall make no law respecting a religious establishment.'"

John Adams had a few choice words on the matter, as did Thomas Paine.
“As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion,—as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen [Muslims],—and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan [Mohammedan] nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

Paine said this,
“One good schoolmaster is of more use than a hundred priests.”
― Thomas Paine, The Age of Reason

What idol are you accusing us nasty leftist secular progressives of worshiping?

Who are these barbarians?

,

Freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM. Let me save you time, and I mean this nicely, unless you are bored... don't worry about dissecting this for me, because I will disagree.

Who do you want to keep out? Terrorists? Illegal immigrants? Muslims? Gang Members? Drug runners? Christians?

Religion from government.

At the risk of being laughed at.... what do you mean by this?

The objections are not to prayer in public, but to mandating "public prayer", that is, requiring members of the public besides themselves to participate in prayer. If someone wants to pray at an event or anywhere where others are present that's perfectly fine, just do it privately as prayers should be.

Mandating? Are you aware that the only reason Rep. Stephanie Borowicz prayed before that assembly was because the House leadership asked her to pray? Democrats may not like prayers to God but they hurt themselves by openly attacking the honored American tradition of praying for God's guidance before opening public meetings.

It's a bad tradition

Does the strict separation of church and state mean anything to you? Religious observance is not to be part of the governmental function. The government isn't to be supporting relgious belief over non-belif or endorsing one religion or sect over the others by public action, word or policy.
If they want to pray then do it on their own time, their dime and their place but religious observance are not to be part of the government.

Your bible explicitly tells you not to do it, but that has never stopped you because you only read and obey the parts that support your opinions.
Matthew 6:6-7

The House leadership asked Rep. Borowicz to pray so she prayed. 'Wut da problum is?'

I think one of the first things I learned, studying Civics, was the principal of "The Separation of Church and State" IN OUR Constitution. Had they discontinued Civics when you went to school? I wouldn't expect "Times of Israel" to know the bullet points in our Constitution (actually I would), but I think Most AmeriCANs should.

She wasn't, he lied about what she said. She was offended that the Rep had weaponized Jesus' name and used the prayer as more of a political statement. She was not offended by the Christianity.

It is obvious the democrats were upset by Rep. Stephanie because they wanted the day to be about the Muslim woman who had just been elected. If not for her religion the Muslim woman would have just been a side note that day.
