In all fairness it seems to me that the four democrat Senators running for president should recuse themselves from voting. Or when it comes to a vote, they should just respond present. We will have to see how honorable those four democrats are, since they have a conflict of interest, and the most to gain if the president was found guilty.

Too bad they pledged an oath to the Constitution which says they have to participate in impeachment trials, huh?

Your "breakfast and coffee group" needs to come up with better logic.

If they were honorable they can vote present. Will they, are they honorable??

So ignore the Constitution, right? Got it.

Voting present is NOT ignoring the Constitution!! They were there and and voted-----------------present.

Is expecting a democrat to do the honorable thing too much of a stretch??? Or is honorable even in the democrat dictionary?

The Constitution says they must participate in the process of the trial. Voting "present" isn't participating in the process.

Why do you hate the Constitution so much?

Quote the passage in the Constitution that says voting present is not participating!!!

In all fairness the vote should be secret.

I would, but there are too many words in the Constitution and not enough crayons for you.

Borrow Trump's copy (it has Cliff's Notes and Sharpie comments) and you can read all about the responsibilities of the Senators in the impeachment process.

This whole thing has been a made for TV political soap opera. Why screw it up now by killing off a few of the cameo characters? Make them put their name on a vote and let the American voter decide whether they got it right or not.

Actually it would be to the advantage of the 4 democrat senators if they did vote present. The senate will not get even close to the 67 votes needed. So if there were 4 present vote, those 4 democrats could show the country how honorable they really were.

No ****ing way!

The Democrats chose to put this whole display on in the press and TV media. Nobody should be allowed to escape from that spotlight.

How about the republick senators who have a lot to gain by Trump being reelected? Shouldn't they recuse as well?

Besides, if Trump is removed, that clears the deck for a non-batcrap crazy Republican to run in 2020. Not sure that's not a win for the GOP, actually. At any rate, it's not as if the republicks won't field any candidate if Trump is removed, it just won't be Trump.

From the Trump hater's point of view, fairness is a non-issue. They simply don't care about being fair.

The ends justify any means.

I wonder...
If you put it to the Senate, vote in secret on whether the impeachment vote should be secret, any chance enough Republicans would vote yes so they could get away with voting against Trump

Its ridiculous to assume that they can't be every bit as impartial as all those Republican senators who have Trump's noose around their necks.

I suspect Trump would be convicted.

Is that because "Democrats are only impeaching Trump because they never got over Hillary"?

Lets look at it this way. Democrats are trying to impeach Trump on the fact they say that if he found dirt on Biden he had something to gain. Now should these 4 democrat senators vote to impeach on the same grounds that they have something to gain?

You don't really understand the Constitution, because if you did, you wouldn't be equating running for president with lack of honor WRT impeachment.

Trump is not being impeached by these four Democrats, he has already BEEN impeached by the House, and now is about to be tried by the Senate, and the Senate trial has rules. Nothing in those rules talks about party affiliation whatsoever.

I suspect youre right, and I suspect the GOP braintrust suspects it too.
Might be interesting if the GOP thought the party would be better off going into the election led by President Pence.

But the democrats are deathly scared of the Nov vote!!!

Not trying. Trump has been impeached by the repreentatives of the people. Now its up to the representatives of the States to decide if he should be removed.
