20 Votes to Remove

Let's pretend for a second the-very-unlikely happened... What would prevent Trump from running in 2020 anyway?

In fact, if he did that and won, I bet by the end of his 2nd term, he'd have everyone convinced "2 term" limit does not apply if 1 term was not finished...

and he may have a point. Oh, the sweet irony of that outcome.

I don't think that you will get those 20 votes. I think the best that we can hope for is that there is enough dissent within the GOP ranks to have an actual trial with witnesses. That may be achievable, but I don't see there being enough dissent to have the votes to remove. I never thought that any of this would end in removal.

Y'all want witnesses...that's great. Is everything Schiff put together not enough for you? If it was good enough to get articles over to the Senate then why shouldn't it be enough to convict?

I'll tell you why it is.

It's because this "impeachment" is all about Democrats running in 2020 and not about anything Trump really did. It's all about promoting a political narrative in the media and the more "witnesses" you have the longer the trial show can run.

It must be the first time in Donald Trump’s life that he will face a consequence for his actions. From what is coming out of the WH and the Twitter feed, Trump is feeling some pressure. My secret fantasy is that once the Senate realizes they can rid us of this ”troublesome” President, without any further damage to their careers from Trump, they vote to remove.

Regardless of the outcome, I don’t see the country coming together for a rendition of “Kumbaya!”

What consequence?

Is Martha McSally the one who made a fool out of herself last week screaming at the reporter and calling him a liberal when he isn't?

Martha explained it this way. She notices how daily the media talks to Democrats saying to them, how are you? And to Republicans they hound them.

She was sick of it and said to the reporter he was a hack.

Like here, the hacks are the Trump haters.

Minute 3:15 to get her point

Just out of curiosity, I wonder what the rules are on that?

Trump has enemies. Trump broke laws. Trump is banking on a farce trial that few senators have the stomach to impose on the people. And, I can see why.

Not many up for reelection in swing states or non-Trump Country territory have the stomach to spit in the face of those numbers. So, odds are pretty good we're gonna have a trial. And, maybe even a fair one.

Now, are there 20 GOP votes out there to throw the bum out?

That depends. Who can we count out (or count in, depending on your POV)?

Sens. Mitt Romney (Utah), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Susan Collins (Maine) and Lamar Alexander (Tenn) fit into that category, so too does Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.).

Three more: Sens. Joni Ernst (Iowa), Martha McSally (Ariz.) and Thom Tillis (N.C.) sit precariously in blue leaning states.

Hmm...that's 8.

Retiring Sens. Richard Burr (N.C.), Mike Enzi (Wyo.) and Pat Roberts (Kan.) are certainly wildcards. Now we have 11.

20 sure looks doable. No?

11 isn't 20. In fact, it's far short.

Don't laugh at me. I have a bitching refrigerator right next to my computer where I watch movies. I don't even have to get up to get a beer.

I must take exception (like a MAGA supporter to the truth). The word is bitchin'. Just like it's pronounced. As in, "that's a bitchin' (fill in the blank) (car, bike, fridge, idea, etc.).

(Part of a youthful vocabulary)

The left think they have dished out all these consequences but I don't really see any. The consequences are all in your head.

The voters will dish out the consequences. And, it will be the Republican Senators conspiring to whitewash who will be suffering them.
