How Big is Africa?

Big enough to stick almost all the popular countries from the other continents into it.

EOpapMBWkAAmrdY

I've read about the fake maps we grew up with, maps which intentionally minimized the "Dark Continent." But, the pic above really makes that clear, IMO.

Have a point?

Africa is the second largest continent. None of the rest you have inside are continents.

Africa is a sleeping giant and barring humanity destroying itself, WILL be the driving force behind global economic growth.

The only question is who will benefit from that growth, at the moment, the African people?

Or an elite few Africans and foreign owned corporations simply extracting the wealth, it will be a mixed bag, but China appears to want to do the former and they appear to have quite a head start.

:lamo

Did you ever have or even see a globe?

He acts as if it's a new concept.

However, he compares a continent to countries, apparently not realizing that Africa contains 54 countries.

My point exactly.

Why worry about Africa containing less counties than it contains within?

I don't know that anyone's "worrying" about it. I guess it was presented to correct some perception that its size wasn't significant. I don't know who thought that to begin with, but considering that at least one person thinks that it's "wrong" to make the observation that North America is a continent and America is a country, I guess there are a lot of people who are geographically pretty ignorant after all.

I wonder if the OP realizes that Asia is 46% larger than Africa?

Wow...

What they don't teach kids these days in school...

Who is ignorant enough not to know it's the second largest continent?

Are the schools really failing kids that bad these days?

Constantly dealing with a 14 year old who knows everything because he has read a single book.

I don't even think he reads books. It seems he believes everything bloggers tell him on the internet.

I'll bet he thinks Africa is a country too...

What is VERY telling about this thread . . .look at the people that are INSTANTLY defensive and or angry or attacking the information based on nothing more than completely insane and retarded thoughts in their head its freaking so sad and hilarious at the same time LMAO

ive seen similar posts and info online like this about how big Alaska is compared to the rest of the united states like this:
(people again are disconnected to the preception) but for some odd reason, it didnt cause anybody to meltdown.

But an OP that does this:

OP
look how big africa is if you didnt realize it, read about preception of this before and this really shows it (there's factually nothing else in the OP)

I don't know who Lonny Brooks is, but he really should've grown out of this sort of magical thinking by the time he was 12.

Seriously though, if Africa does manage to get out from under the thumb of China in the 22nd century or whenever, the odds that it'll maintain whatever level of civilization the Chinese have created, are approximately zero. Just as they failed to maintain the level of civilization Europeans left them.

“Level of civilization”

You can call the ****holes Europeans created like Rhodesia and the Congo “Free State” a lot of things, but “civilized” ain’t one of them.

Maybe you can explain why this thread matters.

Are people really surprised that Africa is the 2nd largest continent?

Are they equally surprised Asia is the largest?

He says in post 1 "we grew up with, maps which intentionally minimized the Dark Continent."

Really?

Intentionally minimizing it? My God man. Nobody is lying by flattening out a sphere. just because a person doesn't understand what happens, doesn't make it a lie.

Who was he indoctrinated by? That's why I asked are the schools really that bad now?

As you noted, China is strongly addressing involvement in Africa, currently doing infrastructure in exchange for the host country's debt, thereby gaining geo-political advantage.

Propping up warlords and dictators, bribing the people with infrastructure projects...and all the while, they pillage the Rare Earths mines to gain a monopoly in RE markets.

Well said, I was going to make the same point. Seems everyone until this post (and many after?) refer to, debate and treat Africa as if it's one country. Do the citizens of the 50+ countries that make up the African continent refer to the United States as North America? Do Canadians call themselves North Americans? Do we refer to Americans who's family came from Italy, Spain, France, etc., as European-Americans?

The source of the slaves Americans shipped here came from a number of countries of west Africa. My wife has no idea which country, then or now, her ancestors were taken from. It's the reason why she prefers and refers to herself as black, not 'African American'...

You should see the ignorance he displays in the climate threads, thinking he knows science.

Thank you for further proving my point!!!! :laughat:

You figure the Chinese will leave them like the Europeans did? Based on what?
Listen. Africa represents everything China needs, everything China lacks to achieve the hegemony they see as their destiny. They won't be leaving Africa. Africa will drive their economic dominance of the world.

That's probably why Obama had Qaddafi killed. He was about to unite many of the African countries.

Why should I care?

cuz it's interesting

Would be nice if some of the philanthropists would move there, take their businesses with them, instead of going for photo ops.
Some fine people living t/o the continent.

but China appears to want to do the former and they appear to have quite a head start.

China will absolutely dominate Africa. That's been their expansionist strategy for a while, now, ever since they've realized that poking the bear up north won't help with their lack of space for their growing population.
