Now he's done it...

Celebrated author Stephen King says he'll only consider quality & not diversity when voting for Oscars.

Needless to say, the PC Brigade is NOT happy:

If the Oscars are supposed to be all about diversity - per the PC Brigade - should the NAACP Awards be all about quality?

Should Clint Eastwood receive a bunch of IMAGE Awards for Richard Jewell?

Stay tuned - I'm sure this will only get more surreal!

Finding racism in a film made forty years ago is not a challenge.

King is right -- if we want the best artists -- we VOTE for the best artists. We do not vote for diversity over the substance of the art.

If we want more diversity in the arts -- we TEACH a more diverse class of upcoming artists, which will then give us a more diverse group of good artists from which to choose.

If we want to continue to evolve as a society, we must always strive to be the best.

3poosmoreproo understands what you're saying. That's the problem.

I'm not sure what that means, but do you agree or disagree with my sentiment?

OK, ecobert, please explain to us how Cujo the movie was racist.

I have no sympathy for king. He is a typical progressive hypocrite who thinks the things he promotes for the rest of us should not apply to things that affect him. I hope they kick him out of their club.
In reality he make a statement falling all over himself appologizing for his comment and all will be forgiven.

You don't figure there's something racist in a four decade old film?

I got laid in Patchouli plenty. Hot, wild, uninhibited women. Haters gonna hate.

Mr. King is right: Only quality, not diversity, should be the sole criterion for the Oscars.

But this is 2020: Many activists will not accept this criterion.

After they threatened to boycott the Oscars, the Oscar bigwigs changed the voting system in order to "guarantee" that some Oscars every year would go to non-Caucasians.

So, like many other people, I was shocked by the lack of diversity in the recent Oscar nominations.

No doubt the selection process will be tweaked so that this does not happen again.

Of course, giving pity Oscars lowers the award's prestige, but that's the price to pay for social harmony in this rapidly changing country.

The thread title does not accurately reflect the OP link. It really has nothing to do with Cujo.

No one is surprised.

I agree with all of this, and I agree with King, but for the life of me, I can't understand why anyone would want to watch a show centered around Hollyweirdo-types patting themselves on the back. Don't get me wrong, I like good movies as much as anyone else, but I pay to be entertained and that's all I want from actors and directors. If they want to host an awards program for themselves, that's fine, but let's not pretend they are important to the rest of us.

Supposedly, movie stars are our substitute for royalty.

Since no one can possibly admire our politicians, we supposedly look around for someone else to idolize, and movie stars are the ones.

Sadly, their behavior during the last three years has been so disgraceful that many of us are now looking around for others to admire.

I nominate researchers who are working hard to come up with medicine and procedures to stop diseases that make life such a nightmare for so many human beings.

Have a nice new week!

Granted, its been a long time since I last watched it but I dont remember anything racist in it. Was the dog racist, or the bats?

Quality, equality, character, not color of skin. Only the real racists trample on this fine man's grave when they are saying color over character or quality should matter. Shame on you

I have a dream (Mhm) that one day (Yes) this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed (Hah): “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.” (Yeah, Uh-huh, Hear hear) [applause]

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia (Yes, Talk), the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream (Yes) [applause] that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice (Yeah), sweltering with the heat of oppression (Mhm), will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream (Yeah) [applause] that my four little children (Well) will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. (My Lord) I have a dream today.
'Thank you Dr. King

There's always a strong smell of starch around conservatives. I can smell Pence from here.

Well, that's a relevant reply.
