respects Trump as Commander-in- Chief ? Why, or why not ?

As CiC? Yes. Disrespect of chain of command is actionable.

As a person? No.

If he doubled my pay I'd like him a lot more.

Just saying >.>

They respect the position, but probably not the f***ing moron in the chair.

That could be said for every president who has held office.

In modern times, there is certainly a different mindset between military and civilian leadership, but I strongly doubt that our military professionals at the Pentagon and JCS think most President's are f***ing morons. I like Jimmy Carter, but thought he was a weak President. Ford was a good President but underated by the public. I do not see most military disrespecting him as a man. Disagreement is not the same as disrespect or, most likely, a lack of respect of a man as a man, leader or elected official.

That said, all military professionals understand their oaths since they take them every time they are promoted. They understand and support both our Constitution but also the meaning of "Duty, Honor, Country". The same can't be said for every elected politician who has taken an oath of office. If a person violates their oath, they have not only dishonored themselves but are deserving of a lack of respect even though professionalism requires their office to be respected.

It must cause conflict in a military person of honor to be ready to lay down his or her life or to order a soldier into harm's way at the command of such an ignorant and mentally unbalanced president.

A lot of the military is right wing and always has been. They're much more likely to support Trump than a democrat.

Trump's poll numbers have dropped precipitously since his election. Canning General Mattis hurt Trump a lot more than it hurt Mattis.

Lacking respect for a draft-dodging coward and lacking respect for Democrats are not contradictory.
It's easy to do both at the same time. :)

Not disagreeing with you. It is ingrained to respect the office no matter who sits in the chair. That's just one of the many reasons that make our Military great. However, no president is universally liked by everyone. And yes, I'm sure high level folks throughout the ages have thought "this guy" is a total idiot but have the discipline to remember their oath.

True about universally liked, but I was referencing our military leadership, specifically at the Pentagon and JCS.

All you have to do is watch a few hundred Youtube videos to get that answer. As a former soldier myself, I hated every commander-in-chief that wouldn't allow us to win the war. Most only wanted to keep things going as long as possible at the cost of American lives.

Trump will bring in all the heavy artillery and bomb you into oblivion before he sends in the troops. So yeah, thats what troops want to hear.

OTOH, the troops don't want to hear of an idiot who seeks to start a war then lies by saying he won't use any troops to win it. They know BS when they see it.

FWIW, Trump's polling among military personnel is dropping. Why do you think it's doing so?

Half of active-duty service members are unhappy with Trump, new Military Times poll shows

Trump’s 42 percent approval in the latest poll, conducted from Oct. 23 to Dec. 2, sets his lowest mark in the survey since being elected president. Some 50 percent of troops said they had an unfavorable view of him. By comparison, just a few weeks after his electoral victory in November 2016, 46 percent of troops surveyed had a positive view of the businessman-turned-politician, and 37 percent had a negative opinion.

LOLOLOL! Which is why he's sending more troops over to the ME, completely contradicting you.

Fun!

A soldier doesn't care who is the President, and doesn't care how many bombs precede him. He has a job to do and if bombs could get it done he wouldn't be there.

What was your mos?

Because every war has been won by superior firepower and just bombing everything that moves. No war has ever been won on things like strategy, economics, industry, logistics, or whatever.

Do you think white people are bad dancers?

Are Canadians polite?

Are women nags?

Are Germans anxious to conquer the world?

Who is the "US military?"

What is "respect?"

Why are you asking?

Meaningless question is meaningless.

*What* is the U.S. military..... you're welcome...

That could be said for every president who has held office.

I believe, based on the numerous military veterans I have worked with-that they respected presidents who actually knew what it was like to serve. GHWB being the most obvious. Kennedy was well respected-even people who didn't vote for him-like my late father (who also was in the Navy In WWII) who were vets. And W was far more respected by the military than Bill Clinton.

"What" makes your question even more meaningless/ridiculous, because a "what" can't answer.

An individual "who" CAN answer, but not the "US military."

Are Asians bad drivers?

Your question is completely preposterous & bigoted nonsense.

How is the OP question bigoted ? This should be interesting.

Clinton gave us a raise and never said anything bad about the military so we liked him.

Trump crapped all over everything the military holds dear from families of those killed in action to prisoners of war. Perhaps his greatest failing, militarily, is understanding that combat is a team effort. Everyone does their job and sometimes bad stuff happens. As far as whom the bad stuff happens to, that's just luck. Soldiers are in positions one through ten, for example, and position eight is captured. That's not position eight's fault. That's everyone's fault and eight took one for the team. Eight made the real sacrifice, paid the real price and he paid it for everyone. Not for himself. He didn't get himself captured. And he didn't get himself killed. We let that happen. It's on us. And we don't forget sacrifice like that. I wish Trump could understand that.

That's very logical, but people aren't.

I knows tons of Navy who think JFK was a total dirtbag & responsible for the PT-109 tragedy, and other Navy who respect him enormously.

One size does not fit all; the question is ridiculous.

It's like asking if all gay people have superior fashion sense.

Silly.
