Where is the Tea Party??

Obummer's IRS denied Tea Party organizations permits prior to the 2012 election. This has been proven. That's how the dirty bastard STOLE the election.

With few exceptions they didn't deny them, they slow walked them.

Plus, while they were waiting they were allowed to operate as charitable organizations until the final approval/denial was issued.

The TEA Party I know of was launched by CNBC's Rick Santelli, who called for it on February 19, 2009, hardly a RW financial advisor.

That was the media moment.

But a full blown, fully formed national group of organizations didn’t suddenly materialize just because of a remark on cable TV. That’s what they told you.

But look into any of the larger tea party organizations and you won’t have to look far before you find the connections between them an right wing public relations firms, conservative lawyers, DC political marketing organizations, and in at least one case I know of, outright pocket-the-contributions fraud.

Not that it matters.

Not long after the first anniversary of Mr Santelli’s remarks, tea party websites were already going dark and the money had dried up.

And, right wingers may not like the fact that people had little trouble spotting the latent racism in much of it, but the fact that the Tea Party was 99% Republican and 95% white spoke volumes.

Indeed, it’s the same mob that bought Sarah Palin and Donald Trump.

For the same reason those now were silent during the Obama administration.

Could you give me a quick lesson in reading comprehension?

They didn’t deny a single one, they didn’t slow walk them either.

The IRS had noticed that a “spontaneous” avalanche of new applications for “social welfare” organizations began to flood the IRS in 2008-9.

Funny thing, they all wanted to be classified under the heretofore obscure part of the IRS Code.

501c(4).

This allowed them to collect unlimited cash from donors, without having to tell anyone where the money came from.

Which is a very useful thing when you’re conning the Limbaughloonies into believing that all this sudden money actually came from the “grass roots”.

Its not at all surprising that people like you see what you want to see.
"Regardless of who you may give credit for it, the economy is booming."

Despite all the rat party naysayers predicting doom and gloom...the economy continues to thrive. I know how much that pisses you off.

You were on DP in the Obama years, so you know the right wingers on here and in the broader right wing bubble kept harping about weakest recovery on record, etc. blah blah, Obama economic policies suck! Then Trump takes over and the same trends that have been in place for YEARS are evidence of a "thriving!!!" economy. And it doesn't piss me off at all. I'm glad of it.

Would have "thrived" more if Obama had blown up the deficit $200B a year like the GOP did with the tax cuts, since deficits are short term stimulus. But regardless, I'm happy for the economy being good, I just worry what happens when we throw out a big fiscal boost at full employment and are running $trillion deficits when the economy is about as good as it gets. When it goes into recession, what happens? MORE TAX CUTS?

Your ignorance about the TEA party is not shocking. Of COURSE you think the TEA party was only about democrats and Obama. Which only proves how little you know about the origins of the TEA party. But then...you DO see what you want to see.

I didn't say it was "only" about Democrats and Obama. You quoted my comment - why misrepresent what I said?

Obama's economic policies DID suck. The ONLY growth in employment during the Obama years was in low income service jobs. Unemployment swelled and stayed high until people dropped off the rolls. Minority unemployment skyrocketed...unemployment in black American men aged 18-25 hovered around 25%. They completely abandoned manufacturing jobs...PROUDLY. They dumped money into social programs. The green energy funding was a fiasco. Much of the stimulus spending went to unions to refund retirement accounts that had been mismanaged.

But you are convinced the economy today is thriving because of Obama...not Trump. Irrelevant. Any sitting president gets the blame or the glory for the economy. In this case there is a clear difference in the economic strategies of the previous administration and current.

The TEA party...that group you folk are bitching about...was formed in 2002/2003. It became truly active in 2006/2007...especially in response to the bank bailout programs. The TEA party opposes increases in taxes...especially increasing taxes without government spending controls. Hell...if you could cap and even reduce government spending, Id agree to tax increases. But since we all KNOW that the only thing the government is good at is deficit spending...why should we support an increase in taxes that wont in the least reduce deficits.

I wasn't silent during the Obama administration and I'm not silent now. I do understand economics and know that you cant bring a country out of a deep recession by cutting taxes. It is better to keep d from having recessions because the fix of a recession is expensive because it has too be driven by increased federal spending.

You are making up economic data and doing a great job of proving my point. Here's manufacturing jobs, for example. See the big Trump bump? No one does because it doesn't exist - the trend line is unchanged from the awful, terrible, sucky, Obama socialist years to the glorious economy of your Dear Leader!!

Here's black unemployment. Show me that Trump bump!!

Actually, I'm not convinced either way. The economy mostly does what it does. What's hilarious is watching you make up stuff to show it sucked under Obama but changed dramatically when Trump took over. You can't cite any data to back up that claim.

That's really not true. It's modern incarnation was post Obama. Don't gaslight us.

Our deficit is soaring. Why did they fall silent after Obama??

Great Questions.

The answers are pretty simple, though.

The Tea Party is the core of the Trump base. As many of us always understood, they were (at their core) really just a rightwing culture warriors who used "the debt" as a tool to deflect from their real issue: Racial/Religous/Cultural resentment.

And they went silent after Obama because they were never anything more than frauds/charlatans involved in a fake "grassroots" movement, from the very beginning.

Conservatives have NEVER really cared about deficits and the debt. They only use those issues as political talking points when Democrats are in power. But the FACT is that deficits and the debt have ALWAYS grown faster under GOP presidents, than under Democratic presidents. Just in recent times, for example:

  • -Carter increased the debt by about $300 Billion, or about a 40% over that of his predecessor (which was about the average of all presidents dating back to Ike).
  • -Then Reagan came in and increased the Debt by about $1.9 TRILLION, or about 190% INCREASE over what he inherited from Carter.
  • -Bush, Sr. increased the Debt by $1.5 TRILLION in only 4 years, an increase of 54% over what he inherited from Reagan.
  • -Clinton increased the Debt by $1.4 TRILLION in his 8 years, or about 32% over what he inherited from Papa Bush.
  • -W. Bush increased the Debt by $5.9 TRILLION in 8 years, or about 101% over the debt he inherited from Clinton
  • -Obama increased the Debt by $8 TRILLION in 8 years, or about 70% over the debt left to him by W. Of course, Obama gets a pass because his economic stimulus plan literally saved the world's economy from a 2nd Depression.
  • -Trump in ONLY 3 years, in on pace to increase the Debt by about $6 TRILLION, i.e. about 75% as much as Obama's debt after 8 years!
