Will witnesses be called in the senate trial of president trump?

Probably not, right out of the gate I am expecting two motions.

One, that the rules of proceedings itself are handled via majority vote only (all but the Constitutional required rule on super majority needed for "conviction by the Senate.")

Two, the very next motion from Republicans to dismiss the proceedings via party line majority vote.

The End.

Or a few Republicans find a spine

It's 100% partisan. The republicans control the senate so since 100% of republicans disagree with the impeachment, I doubt much will happen.

Yes, eventually.

Democrats will demand Bolton and they'll get some Republican support for it. Republicans will demand Ciarmella and Chalupa. No Democrats will support that demand and Romney and Murkowski will probably side with the Dems but we'll likely see both of them too.

I hope the Senate flushes this partisan inspired joke down the toilet where it belongs as soon as possible.

Really? Never gonna happen. Might be a wet dream to a Trumper, but political annihilation for McConnell, GOP Senators and the GOP in general.

Should have made it a poll. I believe there will be witnesses but not in the context you think. They can replay the video testimony from the House hearings and call that witness testifying. And, they can have Bolton, and maybe even some others, provide some form of limited written/video testimony under executive privilege rules. I wouldn't expect to see any live in person testimony.

They're gonna try, but Trump hasn't installed the 10 flush toilets yet. Maybe just give it to Giuliani. He wants it. He loves it. He has a TV show on YouTube!

Just to clarify, the House impeaching Trump was also 100% partisan.

Nunes letter to ICIG demands answers about whistleblower complaint | Fox News

I am putting that link up for those here who only listen to mainstream news because you are unaware of this.

“He’s the only one of all the star chamber games that were played in the basement of the Capitol, with the secretive interviews. The only one that’s not released is the one with the IC Inspector General. That’s unacceptable,” Nunes told Fox News’ .........Among Nunes’ main concerns: the decision to revise a form for whistleblower complaints that removed the requirement of first-hand information in order for a complaint to be relayed to Congress.

In short, what happened is that the IG colluded with both the whistle blower and Schiff. Read it for yourself. This was a setup from the very beginning.

So, i would like witnesses. The fist being the IG, the second being Schiff, the third being his staff, and the last being Vidman and the Dems can get Bolton. However, Trump is adamant about protecting future presidents from future abuse of congress.

Just to clarify, the House impeaching Trump was also 100% partisan.

In that Republicans knew they could sit back and it would still pass. Why risk political capital? It was a done deal. They didn't need to do anything, so they didn't; for personal benefit.

Democrats voted for articles knowing they only had hearsay witnesses

Pelosi tried to renegotiate the rules of evidence and testimony to allow here hearsay witnesses

McConnell told her no. We are not changing the federal rules of evidence to accommodate your articles

If Pelosi sends those articles to the Senate, they will not have any testimony to support them.

If the prosecution doesn't have a single witness to testify, there won't be any testimony from the defendant side.

Thats why McConnell told Pelosi he wasn't calling any witnesses. There isn't any witness testimony to rebut against.

Additionally, the Senate Trial doesn't do investigations. Their job is to hear the evidence of the accuser. If evidence and testimony is provided, then the accused will provide witnesses and evidence in defense.

If no witnesses are provided by the accuser, the articles are voted on without evidence or testimony to support them.

That would be too normal. These aren't normal times. Myself, I feel like I'm watching a drama. Bad acting but the plot twists are unreal.

I think there will be witnesses, but it's anyone's guess how the [Senate Rs-Senate Ds-Nancy and Crew-Donald-Donald KAs-minions-the rest of us] will go about it.

So far, 'the rest of us' faction of the Impeachment Behemoth totals 71%. And we want witnesses. Sucks to be a minion, which is what an ever increasing number of GOP Senators are saying.

Will witnesses be called? Maybe.

Even if they are called, it might be closed door testimony.

I disagree. The House impeachment trial was partisan but not because Trump was being investigated, it was as partisan as possible because of the fact that Trump blocked all the witnesses he could and the administration defied Congressional subpoenas by not providing documents. Trump instructed all witnesses to break the law by defying legal Congressional subpoenas. Some like Fiona Hill and William Taylor were instructed to defy Congress, but they are patriots and honored their subpoenas. Their testimonies were incredibly damaging to Trump. Both of them had to resign their positions and that's a huge loss for US foreign relations. Both were seasoned, experienced, dedicated and respected US foreign service employees.

Once Trump proclaimed that he was absolutely not going to cooperate with Congress in any way, it was he that set the stage for an entirely partisan impeachment investigation. Congress has the Constitutional obligation of oversight of the Executive branch and Trump defied the Constitution with his refusal even to allow others to fulfill their obligations to this country.

That's ridiculous, but so what if it was a setup? Is Nunes claiming entrapment now? Wait a minute...

...LMFAO

That has to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Setting somebody up...for something he already did.

Simply amazing. What desperation.

We all have spines. We all know the Truth as well. So do you, seems you do not want to speak TRUTHS..

Please provide evidence of this claim.

Will witnesses be called in the senate trial of president trump?

NO, Witnesses are the only thing that can hurt Trump. Even though he would still survive the Senate no matter what the witnesses said, it would hurt his reelection and McConnell will not allow that.

No. What happened is that the whistle blower didn't have first hand knowledge and they back dated the form. The IG wanted to get Trump and colluded with Schiff, Vidman and the alleged whistle blower....ALL of them Trump haters.

They're called fact witnesses. No such thing as a hearsay witness. So...everything from there on (the whole post) is built upon a fallacy. Not worth a dime. Nice attempt though. I don't believe you got that from a law book. This year's crop of armchair lawyer lawbooks is corrupt. You don't need hazmat but toss that puppy. Quickly!
