Wisconsin dairy farmers suffer massive blow thanks to Trump's trade war

"More broadly than dairy farmers, the rate of farm bankruptcies has dramatically increased during Trump's tenure. An August 2019 analysis showed farm bankruptcies in the midwest have increased by 45% since Trump started his trade war with China."

Trump. Bankruptcies.

Anyone surprised?

Last I heard it is still at two farms a day going under here in Wisconsin...

And democrats haven't done **** about the unfair trade practices for decades.

Do you want price supports on dairy products?

China doesn't produce dairy produicts.

but i thought that the US won the milk war thanks to the impeached idiot.

Well, if the Democratic candidate wins the presidency, s/he can order our military to carpet bomb California dairy farms and sign an executive order that outlaws margarine and requires every American to drink a least 1 quart of milk from Wisconsin every day.

Those little 400 to 600 acre dairy farms with a few dozen milk cows became economically not viable to the quality of life and spending those dairy farms want decades ago when they ceased being profitable without massive government subsidies and free support.

I wonder if the dairy farmers could have avoided bankruptcy it the USMCA wasn’t sitting on Pelosi desk for over a year.

Not at all. Those huge agricorps are buying up the mom and pop operations for pennies on the dollars.

They'll just borrow a few million from the bank to keep things going until the billion dollar bailouts come though. Something a lot of mom and pop operations can't do.

I'm not surprised. Many farmers, ranchers and other American workers have suffered greatly under the Trump Party, and he is oblivious and if anyone woke him up, he still would either be in denial 'fake news' or he just plain wouldn't care.

Exactly how is Pelosi going to force Canada to ratify the USMCA?

You'll have to ask the Wisconsin dairy farmers. One of the main impetus behind the retreading of the trade agreement was that they would be better off by increased trade to Canada. Trump's trade agreement hardly made up for spilt milk onto the floors of US dairies. It's a small %. Next to zip accomplished for all that feign. Somebody show me the net accomplishment in this NAFTA to USMCA agreement.

To be fair, this has been going on for years. People just aren't drinking as much dairy milk these days.

In 2018 among the 2.2 million farms, 501 farms filed bankruptcy under chapter 12.
In 2009 chapter 12 filings were 544
In 2010 chapter 12 filings were 723
In 2011 chapter 12 filings were 637
In 2012 chapter 12 filings were 512
These of course all Trump’s fault.

The best way to ratify it is to hold on to it for a year before sending it to the senate.

President Trump could truthfully campaign on reducing farm bankruptcies.

"These family farms are the lifeblood of so many of Wisconsin's local economies who are now suffering because of Trump's broken promises to have their backs,"

"Instead of trying to buy them off with bailouts, he should wake up to the reality thousands of other farmers across our state are facing."

Time to get out the business I suppose.

It's sad. Just like all the manufacturing industries that have gone under, farming is going the same way.

Trump cemented his support when he made his comments about Charlottesville and promised to keep the Mexicans out.

Many Republican voters will sacrifice everything else.

You don't know **** about dairy farming in Wisconsin do you???

Besides it is more crop farms going down as Brazil is now the world's number one producer of both corn and soy beans, not to mention beef.

Trumps dumb ass trade wars not only ruined American markets for now but destroyed markets it took decades to build and are now gone forever...

I'm not sure of what you're trying to say. Like I said, Canada can only import a small % of what the US produces (overproduces). Very soon thereafter, flooding its own market and washing out its own milk producers of much smaller farms and higher standards to meet. Even the farmer in your article doesn't blame Canada. It was the US that did the rah-rah dance for Wisconsin/NY farmers to maximize production with no clear buyers.
