Harry & Meghan's Brexit

I agree there was likely no overt racism, but the monarchy won't last forever. It really serves no purpose in this day and age, and perhaps this will be a nail in its coffin.

I too hope this is the end of the British monarchy - but I fear it will endure for a long time yet.

I personally feel that a figurehead monarchy is a good thing.

If we Americans had a figurehead king or queen or president, there would not be such a toxic and even dangerous political situation today.

While people would "dislike" Prime Minister Donald Trump, at least all Americans would respect or at least feel indifference when it came to our king/queen/president.

The closest thing that we have is our First Lady. Some people (such as I) admire her, some are indifferent, and a few are contemptuous of her because she is married to The Donald.

Have a nice day!

See this article for a more balanced opinion:
https://conservativewoman.co.uk/the-sussexes-have-lots-of-problems-but-racism-isnt-one-of-them/

Whenever a comment start with "Trust me .... " it should be treated as suspect. Imo.

And so should any source calling itself "The Conservative Woman", and expecting a "balanced opinion" from a right-wing website? I was born here and lived through the racism of the skinhead era, the National Front, the English Defence League, the British National Party. Every one of them openly racist. To suggest that racism is not alive and kicking in Britain is impossibly naive.

Trust me when I tell you that racism and snobbery exist in Britain and always have done.

Of course, I will trust you.

But I really do not think that "racism" is responsible for the present situation.

I believe reports that the Duchess is a very manipulative individual. To be frank, she is a troublemaker.

Of course, you know more about the Duke than I, but I once read that he has ALWAYS gone out of his way to upset the Royal Family. His marrying the Duchess seems to have been his greatest coup.

I live in Los Angeles. As you know, the Duchess has said that she may decide to live her (in luxurious style, of course) once President Trump (whom she dislikes) is out of office.

I am so thrilled by her condescending to live here!

You believe the media reports? I thought it was all fake news? Let me guess; your sources are the Daily Mail and other UK tabloid rags. Am I right?

I absolutely love the Daily Mail because it publishes politically incorrect news about what is happening here in the United States. News that the so-called mainstream media will not touch.

It also was a fan of Hitler...

I check the DM at least twice a day because its photos are fantastic (and so often first, e.g. the San Bernardino terrorist attack) and because it has stringers all over the world. As a homely example, there was a huge breaking story in the States a year+ ago, and within hours, the DM had found my sister in the teeny-tiny town in which she lives, and she was merely somebody on the family periphery. I still can hardly believe this.

It also has great historical and archaeological pieces that I enjoy. I find interesting that on my phone, I need to choose between news and "showbiz"/tabloid gossip.

I think we kind of have a monarchy of sorts in Hollywood types.

Excellent point!

But during the last three years, some of those Hollywood types have opened their big mouths about politics and about you-know-whom.

A figurehead should be above sordid politics.

Agreed.

That's why she's moving to Canada?

Vancouver is very racially accepting. You're much more likely to see racially mixed groups than racially homogeneous groups. Racially mixed couples are almost the norm. Not sure about Toronto and Montreal.

It's awesome, the people worried about "White culture" getting watered down wouldn't like it at all.

Uh...no.

Maybe you should look up the word monarchy.

Your presidency is much closer than Hollywood types these days. Although Trump is definitely a much bigger snowflake than the Queen.

Of course you do. Trust me when I say nobody who has read your posts would expect anything less.

Daily Mail - Media Bias/Fact Check
Questionable Source
Reasoning: Right, Propaganda, Conspiracy, Some Fake News

....
In review, the Daily Mail tends to publish stories utilizing sensationalized headlines with emotionally loaded wordings such as “Woman, 63, ‘becomes PREGNANT in the mouth’ with baby squid after eating calamari”, which is a misleading headline.

The queen signed off on it. Hopefully that’s the end of it as it’s becoming a bit much.

I imagine the racism and misogyny was too much to bear for the second couple. The Brit-loids have been brutal to the two of them. And, I can't imagine old fuddy-duddy Queenie and that schmuck serving as her son lifted a finger to defend them.

I particularly like the bold in the statement: "We intend to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent..."

Pretty much says it all. "We don't need your ****ing money!"

Good God, man! Who is going to protect the people of Sussex from incursions by Gloucester and Essex? who will oversee the collection of tithes or settle disputes over contracts?

The Daily Mail is the UK equivalent of the New York Post, and is equally guilty of printing lies, distortion and outright fabrication. There's an entire website dedicated to exposing it. About the only people who read it are bluehairs and small town conservatives who don't know any better. There's a difference between 'politically incorrect' and outright lies.

You need a fact checker close at hand whenever you open the Daily Mail. You would spend more time checking the veracity (ha!) of its stories than actually reading them.

Thanks for your comments.

Since you live in England, your opinion should be considered.

If I am not mistaken, many people "disliked" Paul Dacre, the former editor.

But I read that even liberal journalists admitted that the Mail was an extremely well-edited paper, strictly from a journalistic point of view.

Have a nice day! (I have to leave now and get my daily dose of the Mail.)

It isn't my opinion that the Daily Mail is a worthless and sensationalist rag; it's a fact (a concept the Daily Mail doesn't recognise). Well-edited lies remain lies, however nicely worded they may be. Read it by all means, but keep a fact checker handy. You'll need it!

I don't need a fact-checker; I'm aware of the DM's failures. But I also appreciate what it does well. And I love its careless editing errors.

I would translate "careless editing errors" as 'lies'. Most people do where toilet paper disguised as 'news' is concerned.

No, I meant hideous grammatical and spelling errors.
