It was not USA money, that's the whole ****ing point. Those assets were being held in escrow and the Iranians were even entitled to interest on escrow!! It was not USA money, period.

So stealing is okay as long as we call it "economic sanctions". Good to know. Returning to Iran it's own money in return for concessions on their part sounds like a win to me.

I'll repeat, if you want to have a discussion about the validity of economic sanctions in general, then that can happen, but that's an entirely different subject than what happened here. Here, on this subject and in our current geopolitical realities, economic sanctions exists and are used all over the globe. There was no obligation to give that money back in light of current dynamics. It's totally incongruent to say that needed to happen while at the same time having massive sanctions on North Korea or Venezuela.

It's like saying to someone with children, "You should never beat your daughter." while ignoring the son being beaten as well.

Iran actually got blocked from buying more boeing jets, I think they ended up buying russian sukhoi super passenger jets instead, and 2 of the already built but blocked by sanctions boeing jets ended up being bases for the new air force one since the company could not find sellers for the jets after trump sanctions blocked them from selling to iran.

This was a negotiation, remember? That's where you give a little and you get a little. Just like in the hostage crisis when Carter gave back Iranian assets in return for the hostages. Regardless of whether or not the money was with held as a sanction or not, it was always Iranian money. Carter gave the Iranians back their own money, as did Obama. Lets have a little honesty here, just for a change.

Since it was "there" money, prove him wrong, show evidence that they didn't use it to pay for missiles.

The USA had a counter-claim against Iran for damages it caused against the USA.

If the money wasn't awarded to the US, then it was still property of Iran. This isn't rocket science. This is common sense. Obama gave Iran back it's own money. Get over it!

The courts ordered Iran's money to be returned, and it was, with interest. The Iranians were deeply indebted to many countries and most of the billions returned to them was used to pay off those debts.
