The White House has just tightened up the list of those who can be present when President of the United States of America Donald Trump makes a phone call to a foreign head of state. That tied in nicely with a post I made on another site about conspiracy theories. Here it is in full.

"Conspiracy theories [CT] are unusually hard to prove false. Based as they are on coincidental happenstance [Mr. Rudolph Giuliani was in Oshkosh, Wisconsin during the same month as ...], the defenders of a theory can easily cook up another equally vague 'explanation' for any attempt at debunkification.

"To show just how easy it is to create a CT, here's one that I just thought up.

"The telephone conversation between President of the United States of America Donald Trump and the newly-elected Ukrainian president, Mr. Volodymyr Zelensky was not recorded in Washington. All we have to go on is a reconstruction of it. That reconstruction had to come from those who actually heard it. All of them are people hand-picked by President Trump, probably for their loyalty to him.* Meanwhile, President Zelensky, in Ukraine, did record the call. He is now able to hold that over the head of President Trump. We saw how quickly the aid was released, right?

"* We've learned in the past couple of days that the White House is tightening even further the list of people who can be privy to a presidential phone call with a foreign head of state. Now we know why.

"You too can start a CT. It's really easy to do."

Why certainly. Can't have another Trump quid-pro-quo shakedown attempt or Trump treachery with Putin exposed by another whistleblower now can we?

Thanks, Captain Obvious. Heck, given the multimedia echo chamber's actions over the last 3 years, we never would have known this was possible if you hadn't told us. :doh

Now do us a favor...talk about your own thread topic.

Is there a point of the Thread?[sic]

Hi! There surely is. The point was how easy it is to concoct a conspiracy theory which defies debunking. It's a technique well known by a number of AM radio talk show hosts. The news item provided a handy hook upon which to hang the rest.

Regards.

Hi! Glad I could enlighten you. It may well be my good deed for the day.

Season's best to you and yours.
