140,000 former felons' right to vote restored by new Democratic governor in Kentucky

Talk about bull****. People should put boots on when reading your post.

They changed the law, commuting the sentence of felons in order to get this group they know will likely vote for their party into the voting booth.

Felons know they forfeit their voting rights when convicted of their crime. That is part of their debt to society for choosing to commit the crime.

Everyone knows what the left thinks about people who commit crimes.

They are just conforming to most states where a person serves their time and then get their rights back. I know you would like to prevent that along with reduced funding for inner city districts so people won't vote but that is too bad. I bet you really enjoy seeing those long lines of voters.

Captain bone spurs stole millions from charity and is an A-moral scumbag. We know what the right thinks about that. LOL! Must kill you to live in a progressive state like CA.

Apparently some think you should lose your voting rights permanently even after serving jail time and or community service. Imagine a marijuana arrest and conviction preventing you from ever voting again. But stealing from a charity is just fine and dandy. Some people are idiots.

Blah, blah, blah.

The debt to society included loss of voting rights.

Suggesting that debt has been paid is just another lie the left like to promote.

Much like the voter suppression lie, taken in total, they prove they are morally bankrupt.

Actually your posts show lack of compassion and empathy not to mention common sense. Talk about morally bankrupt. Everything is a lie including 5 deferment cadet fake bone spurs stealing from charity and students through fraud. Must be nice to live in a bubble. Has Obama's birth certificate been found yet?

Can't handle the truth, so you resort to bull****. A stereotypical example of liberal today.

Part of the debt to society felons took on when convicted was the loss of voting rights. Returning those rights is an affront to society and the victims of their crimes.

The debt was not paid. Period.

The debt WAS paid. You just can't handle it. I guess even the guy who beheaded his wife and the other who raped a 9 year old that were pardoned by that wing nut Bevin get their voting rights back. Because the right is so moral. LOL! I guess Florida and most states are an "affront to society" according to you. Fortunately most citizens aren't like you. Thank God!

I think people are blowing this out of proportion.

I seriously doubt that these people are going to be rushing to vote. They did not obey their civic duty in the first place to not be a felon so I seriously doubt they are going to go vote.

Silly philosophy, ocean515. Losing voting rights for the period of incarnation is the appropriate penalty. Finishing your term and requirements restore them.

The law on the books, that everyone knows, is that if you are convicted of a felony, you lose you voting rights. That is part of the debt to society that committing such a crime covers.

Show me where is says "only for the length of your sentence"

As always, the left, absent any concept of personal responsibility, seeks to pervert elections, by excusing part of the debt felons owe society, and then lie about that commutation.

If society gets to decide what that debt is, then they also get to decide when that debt is paid. More and more states are deciding to return voting rights to convicted felons, including my own. If you don't like it win more elections.

Your argument has been rebutted easily and effectively, yet you repeat it. That does not make it any more correct.

Read Master Debator above, please.

You mean the small percentage of society that votes who decided to commute sentences of convicted felons in order to pervert elections.

In other words, democracy.

How would you suppose we decide such things?

On what basis is it morally bankrupt, Cardinal? Why should people who break society's rules by committing the worst crimes (i.e., felonies) get to turn around and then craft society's rules?

You can catch a felony for driving too fast.

Simple possession of marijuana in some places to this day.

So I'll go with once you serve your time you're done.

Permanent removal of rights is a life sentence to second class citizen.

And lets not forget that the Founders were all technically guilty of treason.

Because their debt is paid.

But Democrats are disgusting, and did this for the very wrongest of reasons.

This democratic governor did the correct thing while the previous Republican governor did not.

Perhaps we should get some convicted felons to vote on the question.

I don't know if they'd care that much about your unintentional comedy to vote on it but they'll probably be voting next election.

:moon:

The simple fact is this: if you don’t entrust them with the right to vote after they’ve completed their prison sentences, then you don’t believe in the idea that going to prison repays a debt to society. At that point, simply releasing them from prison at all is an arbitrary decision because there’s no principle attached to the action.

Further, if you take their right to vote and then tax them, then they are being taxed without representation.

And a bunch of our heroes revolted against England over that issue.
