I can take your catch phrase 'Trump derangement syndrome' and turn it around. Trump's base and the GOP are a completely committed cult of personality with Trump, that's the definition of a derangement syndrome.
Where were we all before Trump? Right, that's right where we'll be without Trump. We can once again live in a country where American citizens are not thrown into jail suspected of being illegal because of the color of their skin or the way they speak. We will be a nation that isn't intentionally divided by the republican party who will do anything, even relinquish their morals and ethics in order to keep Trump in office. We'll be a country that no longer has to worry that our health insurance, food assistance, right to vote or right to speak our minds will be snatched from us. We'll be a country that once again has faith that the U.S. Constitution remains a living document that protects our democracy.
I agree to a point. The true derangement is the brand of brainless, amoral hero worship that the right wing engages in, with regard to Trump. There's no left wing equivalent.
Where will I be after Trump? In a country I no longer recognize, where the vote has been utterly invalidated, where executive branch corruption is unpunishable, where might once again is the ONLY metric of righteousness.
I'm not afraid, I'm filled with a sense of dread that has been building since the fascist, Reagan, recieved similar cult worship, despite his inhuman record. America has been thoroughly looted by the right wing, morally and financially. Trump is the culmination of that slide into infamous public neglect.
Watching the congressional hearing the other day, it was clear that all decorum, all civility and respect have gone from our politics. There is not a single America any more, just factions and interest groups. As such, Trump is a perfect representative for the new normal. He possesses the skills to exploit our collective dysfunction. He turns us against each other, he invalidates the institutions of democracy and, above all, responds to the demands of wealth.
All that's left is to name the undesirables, turn on the showers and fire the ovens. It feels like an inevitability that our acceptance of criminal behaviour now will have its boundaries truly tested in the near future.
Let's hope the worst thing we deal with post Trump is Vice idiot Pense and his merry band of moronic homophobes. I doubt it, though. They reflect a greater intellectual deficit in this country that cannot be argued away. Violence is coming.
