The butt whacker currently in the news turns out to be a youth minister and scout leader ... oh and a loving husband and father ... with daughters.

Tommy Callaway may face charges for slapping reporter Alex Bozarjian’s butt

He says it was a "mistake". Apparently he didn't know it was a bad thing. I guess he was okay with creeps doing that to the women in his family until now when he could possibly face criminals charges over it.

Guy is a liar as well. He knew exactly what he did and it wasn't touching her back. IMO he doesn't deserve criminal prosecution however there has to be some interesting and appropriate punishment we can think of. He has been banned from future events at least. Be interesting to hear what his daughters and wife have to say.

I know that women in many other countries face conditions infinitely worse, but it's sad that even in America there are men -- including religious youth leaders -- who think it's their right to help themselves to women's bodies. Even in America there are men who act like God put the women there to degrade for their own entertainment. Very sad.

Rapeys target by opportunity, not victim identity. For them it's about power not sex.

So guess what.

"Is that frowned upon, was that wrong"
Reminds me of this from Seinfeld

I think he does deserve criminal prosecution.

The law is on the books. If that sexually motivated action against a stranger doesn't deserve prosecution, then strike the law from the books -- it's meaningless.

Right, he "didn't know." And was simply "caught up in the moment."

Yep. He should have just come out and said "I did it...I'm sorry. I thought I was being funny....and boy was I wrong. I apologize profusely and will wash her car every 2 weeks for 3 years...even in the wintertime."

"And dont do drugs."

He assaulted a stranger for no reason. He absolutely should be criminally prosecuted.

Well when the bar is set at "grabbing them by the *****", what's a little butt slap?

Yeah.

I didn't think about politics while posting my OP. In my second post, the thought occurred to me that it was people like Callaway who elected a president who appears to think that God put women on the planet for men to degrade for kicks, so yeah, what's a little butt thwack from official youth role models. I chose not to post that thought, trying to avoid the politics, but I knew that someone else would bring it up before long. Because how could we not bring it up eventually?

It was a "mistake"? Well, yeah. I mean smacking someone you don't know on the butt could well be considered to be a mistake. It could also be considered "sexual assault".

And even more who are thinking, "Yikes, it was just a joke!"

Here is my rub with your statement (bolded), How can you prove it was a "sexually motivated action" vs. a prank that did not go over well?

People overreact way too much now days. Was it improper to swat the reporters butt. Yep. Is it worth bringing up charges, tying up the courts and costing taxpayers for this action? Hardly.

Wonder if the reaction would be the same if the reporter was a male and the runner was a male.
How about if the runner was a female and the reporter was a male?
Or if the reporter was female and the runner was female?

The reporter was evidently embarrassed by the swat. imo, she is way over reacting to the situation. Hope she never has charges filed against her when she pushes a mic in front of someone face who really does not want to be interviewed. Assault and invasion of personal space.

Interesting. I wonder if he would say under oath that he would have smacked a male reporter's butt during a race where other people were high-fiving the male reporter.

And even more who are thinking, "Yikes, it was just a joke!"

There are times that an act like that under discussion could be considered to be a joke. I can think of no circumstance where it would be "a joke" if the slapper is personally unknown to the slapee. In fact, even in cases where the slapper and slapee not only know each other but are married to one another it's a rare occasion where it's "a joke".

You support our president who bragged about grabbing women by the *****. You are part of the problem.

Such hypocrisy from the Trumpsters in this thread.

It's always about where the line is drawn. Now that the line is being drawn more to the other side than before, we get comments like yours. Now when fairness is in question for favoring women, vs. men, it becomes an issue of our failure of being fair to men. We are not perfect in our jurisprudence nor popular judgement. I think many men act out of how raised in the context of a society that continually favors men v. women that it is OK to do much of what they do that they think innocent. Then, somebodies somewheres get nailed for it. Too F'n bad. Now that it's men being treated unfairly we all of a sudden have to get fair? Not on a personal, individual case, basis but on a societal basis if we have to go through men getting unfair treatment in court to get to fairness for women also, so be it.
