Our government officials usually and generally do what they do to help make America better for Americans.

The problem, unless the officials are trying to illegally or immorally help themselves or harm others, rests with what they understand to be true.

That is why fake news is so harmful.

People make decisions based on what they believe to be true.

If the info they have is fake they can make bad or wrong decisions.

If the person doesn't stay up to date with new developments they can make bad decisions.

If their own calculations are part of their decision making but they have bad knowledge, bad advice or bad judgment they can make bad decisions.

Yes, that's why Fox and Breitbart and Info Wars and Alex Jones and Rush and all the rest of Fake News is bad.

Well rush, sean, Faux news and the rest of right wing media created the deplorables with their propaganda.

Everyone should listen to a few hours of rush and Hannity and see what a warped view of reality they present. They have brainwashed 35% of the American population. They feed their hatrid bigotry and fear and in so doing they follow them like the pied piper getting filthy rich in the process.

Meh, echo chambers exist on both sides.

To the question in the title:

Because it creates a misinformed public... and drives a Leftist narrative.

No they did not.

Limbaugh, Hammity, Levin, Beck and the rest are symptoms, not causes.

I’m old enough to remember when right wing crackpots competed with radio preachers for space on late night local AM radio.

All these guys did was take a local market for insomniacs, losers and shut ins, and make into a national phenomena.

The latent tendencies of no nothingness, fearmongering, bigotry and xenophobia have been present throughout much of American history.

Actually, it’s the right wingers who have problems with being informed. There’s plenty of research on that. Right wingers, particularly the ones who think that listening to Limbaugh makes them informed, come out at the bottom of every survey on current events or understanding or knowledge of government.

Their media routinely plays to this ignorance, knowing the audience doesn’t know any better.

A prime example occurred shortly after the Impeachment inquiry began.

McConnell made some cryptic remark about making a trial short.

He knew he had no control over the trial. Most of the right wing media that parroted the message knew it too.

But that audience didn’t. And right wing media and the Am radio screamers ranted for days that McConnell would divise rules for a quick trial.

Right wingers on this forum parroted it without thought or examination.

But the Chief Justice presides, and McConnell has no control in a trial.

Which didn’t stop the talk radio screamers from proclaiming that McConnell did.

Given the problem of winkling 'real news' out of the mix with 'fake news', the prudent news consumer should not only be willing to verify stated facts but also become well-versed in rhetorical sleight-of-mouth techniques. In particular, the ability to recognize errors in logic is an important tool in the kits of truly [Ed.: 'Truly'? C'mon, Torus. 'Nuff of the word play, hear?] informed Americans.

Many people like fake news.

It makes them feel good.

For example, it is fake news that President Trump is a "racist."

But many people find that such "news" fits their political agenda, so they hug on to it.

Much of the news in the New York Times is fake, but it helps drive their digital subscriptions, for many people use fake news as a security blanket.

*****

Some people might even say that religion is "fake news." But since it gives comfort to many human beings, who is to say that it is "bad"?

That must be why their ratings tanked to the lowest viewed cable news provider in the industry falling under the Cartoon channel and Nickelodeon.
Whoops, my bad, that was CNN. Never mind

Babalu, I cannot believe that you did this OP, being a Trump supporter.

You are 100% right in your OP but that makes Trump 100% wrong. You are proving to be an incompetent-for-Trump supporter.

Fake news is wrong, for sure, but then explain why you support Trump if:

President Trump has made 13,435 false or misleading claims over 993 days

While there is an element of truth to that, the rest of the country isn’t nearly as devoted to or as dependent on the collection of ex dis jockeys, shouters and trash bloggers as the reactionary right wing is.

There is no liberal Rush Limbaugh, Sham Hammity, Glen Beck, or Mark Levin.

There ought to be a Law!

Perjury against the People.

Maybe so!

But are you okay with Socialism?

Why not?

The Left has certainly tried.

Could it be because the entire media is Left Wing and the idea AND the execution of Left Wing radio produces yawns?

Because the Fake News has overplayed their "Trump as liar" shtick.

The public has come to understand that he is a promoter and he always tries to present the best or most optimal picture of things he likes and wants other to like.

Like how a guy courts a girl.

Not really lies, but exaggerations.

But if you are committed to destroying his Presidency, starting 19 minutes* after he was sworn in, you will look for as many exaggerations and anything else which you can ARGUE (but which will never be argued because there are so many of these bogus, piddly arse examples to bother with) is a lie that you can. And then when they number in the thousands you will be home free.

There will be no one who will believe the truth in the face of sooooo many "lies." The only thing people will see and remember and repeat ad nauseum, are the wild numbers of lies.

A thousand, A hundred thousand. A million.

All BS.

All Fake News.

The effort to impeach President Donald John Trump is already underway.

At the moment the new commander in chief was sworn in, a campaign to build public support for his impeachment went live at*ImpeachDonaldTrumpNow.org, spearheaded by two liberal advocacy groups aiming to lay the groundwork for his eventual ejection from the White House.
The organizers behind the campaign,*Free Speech for People*and*RootsAction, are hinging their case on Trump’s insistence on maintaining ownership of his luxury hotel and golf course business while in office. Ethics experts*have warned*that his financial holdings could potentially lead to constitutional violations and undermine public faith in his decision-making.

Their effort is early, strategists admit. But they insist it is not premature —*even if it triggers an angry backlash from those who will argue that they are not giving the new president a chance.

You are unqualified to opine on this subject until you are able to prove you know BOTH sides of the matter.

You are most likely a half wit.

A 50% er.

You only know HALF the Trump story.

You likely only know the BAD half.

The bad half is the only thing the MSM or FAKE NEWS vendors tell you.

Prove that you know why the Right LOVES Trump and then your opinion will have some weight.

But until then, youi dont know what you are talking about.

You can say any nonsense you wish, but the smart observer will notice that no one on your side of the argument is opposed to Socialism, Communism or Islamism.

Trump opposes those, but Trump LOVES the US Constitution.

It's ****in adorable that you support your post with that image. It really speaks to the conservative mind.

Conservative patriotism is shallow, superficial nonsense. A headline from The Onion comes to mind: "Area man passionate defender of what he imagines the constitution to be." They talk about loving the country, but betray the fundamental principles on which it is founded.
