The GOP needs to get a backbone and speak out truthfully against Trump for the well-being of our country. They are weak now so it will be hard for them at first, but once they do there will be a great weight lifted off their shoulders, if they have any conscience or loyalty to the American people at all. Once Trump has been flushed down the toilet where he belongs, they will realize how they behaved under him. They will benefit both now and in the future, IMO.

Rep. Dan Kildee said many Republicans in Congress have “tremendous courage” on their way to the House, but then somehow leave it behind.

Kildee referred to ex-Rep. Charlie Dent’s (R-Pa.) claim on Thursday that Republicans are in private “absolutely disgusted and exhausted by the president’s behavior” over the Ukraine scandal and the impeachment inquiry into Trump that it prompted, but are unwilling to speak out over fears of losing Trump’s support.

“I’ve had those same conversations (with Republicans),” said Kildee. “I’m not going to out them, because I think it’s up to them to speak their own truth. But I will say this, many of my Republican colleagues have tremendous courage in the elevator on the way to the second floor where the floor of the House is, and somehow leave that courage behind when they walk onto the floor of the House.”

“This is a moment I think they are really going to have to think about,” he added. “In retrospect, 15 or 20 years from now, are they actually going to want to have to explain to their children and grandchildren why they thought that the president was actually OK when he tried to trade American national security to investigate one of his political opponents and then obstructed the process of actually looking at that question? I don’t think that’s a place they’re going to want to be.”

Except there's nothing to investigate, that may be an obstacle for the republicans.

Right, we all should believe the words of a coup pusher, desperate in the face of growing failure.....

Trump's republican congressmen will never grow a spine and put country over party. It's all about "my career, my salary, my prestige, my power". They are willing (and eager) to pay homage to Trump to keep what they have. They figure they'll be dead before our U.S. democracy completely falls into the black hole and could care less about future generations that will inherit their intentionally created debacle.

Republicans only change by being removed from office. I intend to do my part in November. I suggest everyone else do theirs.

Best post of the day.

Thanks. But one can't argue with fact. Actually, as of late that might not be true. But at least one can't argue successfully ...

Speaking of which, people that are vehemently opposed to a second term Trump, which would be catastrophic, should really have a plan running up to the 2020 election. I have campaigned in the past for previous political elections, including State and Federal. I usually give the campaign a call or an email and ask them 'what can I do?'. I'm not physically able to walk door to door anymore handing out fliers but I am more than able using the phone to make calls. I did that for the 2018 election of Ct. Congresswoman Jahana Hayes. I just committed to putting in the time, that's all. For the 2004 campaign of John Kerry, I attended local fundraisers, worked at our local campaign headquarters and drove people on election day to their voting places. George Bush was elected but at least I felt like I had done something.

I plan to do the same for the 2020 election but this time, I'll get a head start by making small donations to the campaign of the candidate of my choice and letting them know that I'm available for any tasks, no matter how trivial, that they need someone to do. I think that 2020 is going to have to be the year that activists really come out to support the Democratic nominee no matter who it will be. This next election will change our country permanently either for the better or worse.

Of course they're weak. They're more concerned with lining their pockets and keeping their jobs than upholding decent moral principles, and speaking truth to power. Cowards, the whole lot of the sniveling, arse-kissing wretches.

I think it's deeper than that though. I do think we're heading down the road of banana republic status in a hurry because of the ever increasing polarization, and the inevitable requirement to control all branches of government that brings. I do hope I'm wrong and there's a course correction at some point, but it doesn't seem that way. It takes compromise to be able to govern effectively and all of that is getting thrown out the window.

I no longer am politically active, pretty much because my prior activism was geographically endemic and transactional. In addition, my state don't count - it's not a swing.

However, I am happy to say I have convinced two close to me to not vote for trump this time around. Both are Dem Trumpers. One is now going to actively vote Dem, while the other has simply decided not to vote for Trump. This last voter had been terribly misinformed by Fox & Trump, but was amiable to being presented the facts - upon which she saw the light. But getting her to believe the facts after having succumbed to Trump-GOP-Fox propaganda did take some patient effort on my part. It wasn't hard, the facts speak for themselves, but it did take calm respectful tact on my part.

How many reubilcant congress critters can you actually vote against? Are either of your current two US Senators or single US House representative republicants?

Eventually Trump will take a seat at the Republican table of once loved now despised Republicans. He will be sitting next to McCain and Bush.

Such a pity I can't vote. I'll be with you in spirit.
Well, thanks!

Obviously, our White House touches the entire world. Unlike the current occupant and his administration, there are many Americans - the majority - who take this responsibility seriously. Unfortunately, our Constitution is set-up as such that the minority can come into power, essentially making a tyranny of the minority. I wish it wasn't so, but it is what it is. Hopefully, this MAGA phenomenon will be a one term aberration - an experiment gone wrong.

I'm given hope by Winston Churchill's comment,

"You can always count on Americans to do the right thing - after they've tried everything else"

No one hear expects you think hear anything other than Trump's dog whistle, so much for that thought.

So he will be the first to support biden investigations great to hear.

What exactly should the bidens be investigated for if I may ask. I would like to hear something a little more specific than corruption. I'm talking legally here not the fact that biden's kid got the job he did because of his father's name, that's not illegal. Not kosher in my eyes but still not illegal. If it is, jared, ivanka and the prez's kids gotta go.

No. But I'd like to think I'm keeping my jurisdiction safe! :2razz:

Democrats ditched that standard long ago. All we need now is an accusation and that justifies an investigation to see if that allegation is true or if can reveal any new ones. Welcome to the progressives america.
