Russia's main goal was not limited to getting Trump elected. Since the cold war, it has always been to dismantle western liberal democracy.

This article illustrates the brilliant manner how Russia is trying to achieve their goal.

Russian disinformation is not just about President Drumpf or the 2016 presidential election. Did they work to get Drumpf elected? Yes, diligently. Our research has shown how Russia strategically employed social media to build support on the right for Drumpf and lower voter turnout on the left for Clinton. But the IRA was not created to collude with the Drumpf campaign. They existed well before Drumpf rode down that escalator and announced his candidacy, and we assume they will exist in some form well after he is gone.

The IRA generated more social media content in the year following the 2016 election than the year before it.

Russia has dug in for a long campaign. So far, we’re helping them win.

I challenge everyone, from every "side", to read the entire article. It is not that long, but very informative.

Seeing as there's a large group of people in this country who see Russians around every corner and behind every mailbox, and everyone's suddenly a "Russian asset" if they say the "wrong" thing, I'd say it's working well beyond their wildest dreams.

A small measure of how well it is working can be seen in the responses on this board by supposedly politically interested people who bought into the Ukraine meddling conspiracy without hesitation. If a report looks helpful to their side, that's all they need to know.

No, I got it from observation.

Got it.
Thanks for adding nothing to the discussion.

Really too bad though. It is a good article.

I agree about how well it's working here. I found the article to be interesting, I have heard and believed about Russians working to divide and destroy us through manipulation. I have never participated in Twitter or Facebook, so not familiar with hashtags and how many likes is a huge amount or not. It is cunning how they lure people in to do their dirty business as opposed to just outright bashing one politician, etc. Scary business going on with this, and plenty of gullible folks ready to be persuaded....even by a Russian troll.

Nothing says "This is a serious journalistic exercise!" like repeatedly calling Trump "Drumpf."

A Russian under every bed,
and one in every liberal head.

The point is, there are plenty of people who are paranoid about Russians mucking about with things, to the point they are seeing Russians everywhere and accusing fellow Americans of being "Russian assets" with abandon. Which means the Russian campaign to destabilize American democracy and faith therein is working.

Which is entirely relevant to the article, and most certainly adds to the discussion, whether or not it's something you'd personally prefer not to draw attention to.

Do you think the Russian propaganda machine is real? Do you think it is, or has been effective in dividing Americans.....and/or other western democracies?

If you go to the link to the article, they do not refer to Trump as Drumpf.

I did.

It is actually a chrome extension, that does it automatically.

It is silly. And entertaining.

The liberal propaganda machine is vastly more effective.

And dangerous.

This Russian troll nonsense for instance.

Democrat narrative: 'In spite of free people from around the world and mostly in America freely posting negative messages about Hillary in 2016, we blame the Russians for causing Hillary's defeat by negative social media messenging.'

Are all anti-democrat messages now to be assumed to be wicked Russian interference?

Hillary refused to by Vlad's hand puppet!

Vlad struck back!!

Not if they're anti-Tulsi or anti-Bernie!

Tulsi's a Russian asshat you know.

An interesting article. It does not address a question I've had for a few years now.

Assuming that the Russians did try to place their thumb on the 2016 election scale, they had choices to make. They could slant their work toward a general goal such as attacking our institutions or, alternately, toward one of the two presidential candidates. Much of what I've read suggests that they attempted to aid President Donald Trump. Why him, and not Mrs. Hillary Rodham Clinton?

Are all anti-democrat messages now to be assumed to be wicked Russian interference?

Are democrats aware that such claims of Russian opposition to democrat candidates are quite possibly politically driven dishonest propaganda themselbes?

Similar to 'Obummer' and 'Moochelle' that we hear constantly from our erudite and imaginative conservatives?

Yes indeed.

Fauxcahontas is cool, however.

Also Ratchet Madcow.

I think most people with at least partially open minds are aware that investigations by our intelligence agencies, including by the Republican Senate Intelligence Committee, were unanimous in their conclusions that Russia interfered in the 2016 election and that the Russian efforts were aimed mainly at helping Trump and hurting Clinton. Many of us are also aware of the disinformation campaigns to discredit those investigations and how easily Trump supporters have fallen for them.

Apart from that, do you enjoy quoting yourself.

I suspect there are so many fellow Americans on both sides sowing division, making up fake posts like that poll example in the article, etc, That Russian influence would be a drop in the ocean bucket. They are the least of our worries, whatever sneaky divisive thing they can think of has already been done to death by our own people.

From the RS article.

Rather, the IRA encourages us to vilify our neighbor and amplify our differences because, if we grow incapable of compromising, there can be no meaningful democracy.

Who knew Progressives in general, and the liberal MSM media, specifically, were connected to Russia?

Do you think the Russian propaganda machine is real?

Obviously, or I wouldn't have said what I said.

Especially the bolded part:

Which means the Russian campaign to destabilize American democracy and faith therein is working.

Which is entirely relevant to the article, and most certainly adds to the discussion, whether or not it's something you'd personally prefer not to draw attention to.

Do you not think accusing fellow Americans of being "Russian assets" willy-nilly isn't divisive, and isn't a result of the Russian campaign to divide Americans and undermine faith in our institutions? Do tell.

Got it.

Do you reckon there are any CIA employees anywhere who write articles to persuade readers?
