Both Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders support "Medicare for All", taxing the top tenth of the top one percent more, and offering college up to a certain level or all college free for all. With that being said -- who's more progressive in your opinion? Who's more to the left? Who's more liberal? Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren have similar ideologies, but out of the both of them -- who do you believe is more passionate about them?

I think Bernie Sanders is more progressive than Elizabeth Warren, but I like Elizabeth Warren more. Bernie Sanders time to potentially become president has passed I think, but Elizabeth Warren's hasn't -- and she has a better chance of becoming it than Bernie Sanders.

Actually, IMO Warren is more progressive than Bernie if just barely. However, that might not actually be the answer you want because you might have wanted to ask a different question.

Define progressive - Bernie gets more done, Warren is more crazy; need clarification on which definition you are referring to

Bernie = Cranky & sincere social democrat; no presidential future

Lizzie = Sleazy fraudulent criminal; no presidential future

To me, Elizabeth ticks most of the boxes. I think she is the best candidate because she is passionate, incredibly intelligent and will get **** done. Look how she managed to create the Consumer Protect Bureau during a time when government was completely polarized. She didn't get the role of head because the Republicans didn't want her (most likely they were afraid of her). That was when she got into politics. Little did they know it would bite them in the ass in a big bad way.

I actually think that Warren is to the left of Sanders because she is more broad-based policy to the left. Bernie is more like the left's Ron Paul. He just jibberishes toward whatever seems the most radical choice in the moment. That said, going to the hard left is not the democrat's best option if they want to unseat Trump. A raving lunatic who does nothing is better than a raving lunatic who will actually try to do things. If the dems want to win, they need to go with someone closer to being a level-headed centrist like Booker.

Can you give me examples of this because I just don't see it.

I won't be able to convince you, but I'm happy to share what I'm referring to; Were you asking about my comment on Bernie or Warren?

I keep noticing how some supposed Americans keep pushing the least electable Dem candidates. Bernie blew himself up by self-avowing as a Democratic Socialist. He is done. Notice the Repugs are pretty silent on Bernie these days....because they want him to be the nominee. At that point they will unleash on him and that will be that.

Progressive doesn't mean much these days - it's totally subjective.
I will say that Elizabeth Warren used to be a fairly reasonable person, in my opinion. She has unfortunately become radical in some of her views, in an attempt to pander to what she thinks is a large voting block. She appears to believe that one's feelings trump one's biological facts. This is a very *regressive* step she has taken for women. Many of this bunch of democratic candidates have also thrown women under the bus in an attempt to appease a certain group.
So the answer is I would consider Sanders more "progressive" on that basis alone. While he lip services a bit of it I don't think he actually subscribes to that concept.

I think Sanders is more progressive because he actually will try and follow up on his plans. I think Warren is looking to get the progressive vote in the primary then she will bait and switch her policies in the general knowing the progressives will vote for her rather than stay home or vote third party and risk Trump get a second term.

Both, actually. I asked because I am genuinely curious.

And, will I be able to convince you?

What makes you say that she will bail? What makes you say that Bernie won't?

Honestly, you won't convince me because of my total aversion to larger government, but I'm already sold on the character of both people being discussed here

Bernie's effectiveness is pretty well established, from his long history of pushing bills through that he supports to his pressure on Amazon to make minimum 15$ - while I often disagree with him, his ability to get things to vote and push them through whether they have his name or not is pretty impressive

Warren seems to take any side that currently supports her aspirations - I still take issue with her claim of being raised NA and then showing a DNA that has less NA blood than your average white mid-westerner and I have never forgiven her speech about how anyone who has made money owes it to everyone they paid taxes to help along the way

In a way, Warren is the opposite of Bernie, she will compromise anything to get credit for it when he will push anything through whether he gets credit or not; just look at her recent adjustment on M4A to try and make it sane when everyone commented how much she sounded like him

Bernie is more progressive, which doesn't make him better or right necessarily, but it happens to in this case. Warren is good, but she is too 'establishment'. We need a big fight against plutocracy, and she is wobbly on that, but partly good on it, while Bernie is stronger.

Her big claim to fame was the agency to fight consumer fraud. Returning tens of billions of fraud to consumers was great, but it's hardly something that should be seen as controversial, though of course Republicans fought her tooth and nail and have gutted it. Warren doesn't appear to bring enough change we need, Bernie does and is a once in decades candidate we need.

What makes you say that she will bail? What makes you say that Bernie won't?

Because on issue after issue, she has shown herself to make those compromises and to disingenuously try to look more progressive than she is, and that's the standard formula for winning. If you have to ask why Bernie won't, you don't know anything about Bernie.

I don’t know who’s more progressive, per se, but Bernie is certainly farther left than Warren.

A step too far even for most progressives.

Excellent point, I’ve noticed it as well.
Trump was even nice to Sanders (sorta) after his recent heart attack.

“Bernie... get better fast,” the President said on Friday, continuing, “That’s the only time I’ve ever said anything good about him.”

I agree. Bernie has been effective and has been consistent since he entered politics. He's behind issues even well before it's cool thing to do. I think he'd make an awesome President.

Warren seems to take any side that currently supports her aspirations - I still take issue with her claim of being raised NA and then showing a DNA that has less NA blood than your average white mid-westerner and I have never forgiven her speech about how anyone who has made money owes it to everyone they paid taxes to help along the way.

You are entitled to what you believe but it does not mean that your perception is right. You have to know why she got into politics in the first place to understand what motivates her. I certainly do not see her as a Hillary, a career politician who changes her stances based on how well they are polling. That is certainly NOT Warren. As for the whole indigenous thing, well if you're going to ding her on this -- something that is so mundane -- then okay. But you'll be hard-pressed to support any other politician without any skeletons, including Bernie.

Or, you can look at it as making adjustment based-on good feedback. Do you want a leader who does not listen?

Let me ask you this. If Bernie wins the Presidency (something I am not adverse to), do you think he will be able to completely change everything on a dime and implement all his policies?

Thank you for the intelligent and considered reply - as I said, I never expected to convince you and I don't want to start drilling down on the details(period) However, I will commit to spending time later today looking more into the personal history of Warren(period) Please don't expect my opinion to change much, but I like to have the information

I will say that my perceptions are not uncommon and Warren would have a very bad uphill battle even if they are wrong and that her being willing to listen can be taken also as indecisive, which is not highly valued for President where it might be for other elected offices - these are just observations

Keridan, people with differing views can certainly talk it out. Seems it's a lost art here at DP. I am glad to have this discussion with you.

The real question is who is the bigger commie?

I've always respected Sanders although our politics are completely different. Warren, not so much. That may boil down to I think Sanders is more honest in how he presents himself and his views. I'm not sure Warren isn't a put on. My perspective anyway.

I know I would have voted for Sanders in 2016 against Trump instead of voting third party against both Trump and Clinton. In plain English, politics aside, I would have been much more comfortable with Sanders as president then either Trump or Clinton. I was totally uncomfortable with the prospect of either Trump or Clinton becoming president and voted that way.

Which is more progressive, I don't know. That isn't important to me. What is important is who I would be comfortable with becoming president. Warren, much like Hillary, I wouldn't be and would vote third party again against her and Trump in 2020. Let me say I have been comfortable with every president in my lifetime until the present one, which I'm uncomfortable with. I was born right after WWII, so that's a lot of presidents.

Personally I think although our politics differ immensely that Sanders has the best interest of the nation in his heart, I don't believe that about Warren.

Agreed except I will say it can feel like a lost art when so many are here to fight, but there are actually still more good people here for discussion and debate than most internet sites(period) I've always respected that there are so many like yourself who can deal with not "winning" if a good exchange happens

(Not gonna lie, I don't mind a good fight either, but that's a different story)
