In a rare Saturday election, the Democrat narrowly defeated Trump's man in deep red LA.

John Bel Edwards: Louisiana's Democratic governor will win reelection, CNN projects - CNNPolitics

Louisiana Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards will narrowly win reelection, beating out Republican challenger Eddie Rispone, CNN projected Saturday night.

Edwards will claim victory in a deep red state President Donald Trump won by 20 percentage points in 2016, and against a businessman who closely aligned himself with the President. Trump held two rallies in Louisiana over the past 10 days, but the attempt at a last-minute boost was not enough to carry Rispone over the finish line.

I wonder when the GOP guys will start telling Trump to stay away. I know I would.

Hah! In ruby red LA, too! And after Trump went out on the limb for him this week! There's no fall-back backstory this time like KY, where the GOP can blame it on the candidate. Maybe the tide is a changing, after all.

Since Trump attained office, 9 statehouses and 41 House districts have flipped. And I believe the number of GOP House retirement announcements is around 18 (and growing!) for 2020. After seeing the Dem suburban surge again in the recent KY election, I'm sure we'll see a few more GOP House retirement announcements early next year from those in similar districts! Good!

He's consolidated and united the party through voter unity to the point of purity, but he also shrunk it around the edges and made it less palatable to the country at large.

Edwards has been strongly pro 2nd Amendment. Strongly against abortion. And denounced the Democratic impeachment effort against Trump.

If the Democrats would nominate someone like that in 2020, I might consider voting for them too.

Speaking as a Louisiana resident, it's absolutely astonishing that JBE won reelection. I haven't been able to take two steps outside without a flyer hitting me in the face telling me lies about how JBE is giving my tax dollars to illegals or how he's killing babies. I couldn't watch a ****ing YouTube video without seeing an ad of trump and the Republican candidate rispone finger blasting each other.

Sleep well Republicans. Deep red state. Tons of money. Three trump rallies. Still lost. Y'all are going to get buried in 2020.
