Well, she's quite a phenomenon.

On the one hand, some of her comments/stances are quite overblown.

But on the other, she's sailing across the Atlantic on a catamaran.

I mean, that's just super-cool.

The UN speech, for all its mega-drama & ishy facts, was actually quite good; one of the best of the century so far.

And I think she's more in control of things than some seem ready to acknowledge, though this doesn't mean that the climate change concept isn't being used in nefarious ways.

So it's complicated, and no one's exactly wrong, but that girl's quite the inspiration no matter how you slice it.

Ypou dont need to be cool to sail on a Cat. You just need boatloads of money to own and keep them maintained, fuel and slip fees. You can figure about $1K per foot of waterline per year.

I'm sorry my last post was probably a bit vague.

He goes on to talk about meaningless words in our culture today.

Basically all climate change is is a dog whistle. A genuine dog whistle to say we need socialism, and globalism. Socialism is one of these meaningless words, it's too balanced health inequality, or dog whistle to people who are lower in the past scale. Inequality is another meaningless word and it is also a dog whistle, and it just means taxes.

It's interesting looking at this from this perspective I'm going to have to read some more Orwell.

A cat is a very green way to get back to Europe. They'd call her a hypocrite of she flew business class, even though a cat' has 2 diesel motors for propulsion when the wind isn't blowing and for generating electricity on the boat, even if most larger cats have PV cells.

Orwell was an interesting cat.

His two most famous works were, in fact, scathing rebukes of the dominant forms of socialism/communism/collectivism of his time, but he did support an ideal form of socialism.

Socialism has far more branches/iterations than Eskimos have words for snow, of course.

To say that Orwell wasn't attacking certain expressions of S/C/C in his most famous work is like saying Chomsky has never really criticized Israel because he's Jewish.

Mutual exclusivity does not apply.
