So after catching some of todays proceedings, I have decided that none of it matters.

Reality is that Congress (both houses) should just dispense with the time wasting and get on with what they are both going to do. The House needs to just get on with the inevitable impeachment of the President, and the Senate can just go ahead and vote not to remove him.

Then we can just go ahead and leave it to the people to decide if they want to reelect a man who has been impeached.

The rest is nothing more than kabuki theater.

So... Sweep it under the rug then. That's a plan.

I wasn't suggesting that, inherently. But lets face it.....its quite likely that the people who need to hear this the most aren't gonna pay attention to it anyway. For those voters, the details won't matter either way. For the vast majority of them, the end result is all that is gonna matter. If hes impeached, then that stigma exists and matters to them. If hes not, then it doesn't and it won't. For people like us, who are gonna pay attention, we already know the details for the most part, and have drawn our conclusions.

I just don't think there are that many people who both care and don't know most of what is going to come out in the coming weeks was my point.

Someone posting something the other day that made me think. Now, maybe this isn't even true but there might be something to it. Not everyone is like us; on a debate board talking current events and politics. Most people do other stuff in their recreational time. What the person posted was, ~"no one was interested in Watergate until it was on television".

Seeing as it was nothing but theater from the start, most people just don't care anymore. All of it is just a show to make the president receive as much bad press as possible, leading up to the next election and even worse. They're probably going to strip a number of their own candidates off the campaign trail, in order for them to take part.

This could possibly end up being just more good news for Trump all over again. Just like it was in leading up to 2016.

I suppose there might be some truth to it.

I disagree that it was just theater from the start. At a minimum, some questionable **** happened. Looking into it was the right thing to do. My point was more that once the impeachment ball got rolling, the die had been cast. From there, anyone paying attention knows whats going to end up happening. Get on with it and get back to not doing other more important **** at this point.

So basically, you're okay with setting the precedent that any future president, from any party, can use the power of the Oval Office and taxpayer's money to bribe, extort, blackmail or coerce foreign governments into giving the current sitting president political favors and do whatever possible to interfere/meddle in USA elections to benefit the sitting president?

Is that cool with you? Because what Trump gets away with now, the next Obama will most certainly claim as his/her own presidential privilege, and American diplomats will immediately be charged with extorting governments around the globe to make certain the current party in power stays in power, making Putin, Kim, Erdogan, Assad and every other authoritarian dictator on the planet proud!

Is that utter destruction of our Constitution and Rule of Law what Republicans really want to become the new reality for the future of this country?

Or blowjobs and cigars get added into the mix.

I was gonna say, if we just skip stuff and go right to "he got impeached" and leave it at that, what would keep Repubs from doing the same thing Dems did and claim it was about a blowjob.

Meh, I don't think it matters. The Republicans are going to (continue to) lie about all of this anyway.

I think you're missing the point.

The Democrats are arsonists, not assassins.

They've doused the nation in gasoline, and now they wish to watch it slowly burn.

Pretty much.

If they had the ability to do that, I think they would. Though they would need to point out what that questionable event was and then figure out how to frame it in a way, in which it actually is questionable, or find a source that uses more than just assumptions & opinion at this point.

The democrats have backed themselves into a weird corner with all of this.

?~ Maybe Nancy Pelosi will call the whole thing off...

There is a distinct difference between saving face in front of the opposition, and ripping the rest of it off.

If she even tried to do this. She'd not only reveal that she had nothing to begin with, but she'd most likely start the biggest house fire in the DNC. That any of us will ever see in our lifetime.

I'm not saying any of that. I want him impeached. He broke the law. I was merely stating that its pretty much a done deal anyway, and that all of this doesn't matter to the people we would like it to matter to, only the result matters, either way for that matter.

The most reliable incentive in US history has been that good ole' reliable lack of patience....stunning how long that has been the case.

Its maybe a result of most of the country spending a goodly amount of time impatiently waiting for the next batch of beer or cider to be ready or for other libations to show up for consumption. Most of this country was tipsy most of the time and flat drunk some of the time for virtually all of its early history.

Whatever the reason, our history is full of periods when we run around with our hair and pants on fire always pining for immediate results or immediate answers. Sort of makes you wonder if the rest of the world was happier for those two big oceans either side of us or if we were. My experiences traveling more than suggested to me that Europeans and Asians can pick five Americans out of a crowd of a thousand people almost instantly just by looking and always could. The general reaction WAS NOT to run toward the Americans. No, they could not pick us because of the cut of our fabulous clothing. They might be able to pick us out by sheer tonnage these days.

If she called it off for lack of evidence she would be lying. The WB story has been corroborated by everyone. Trump's own Mulvaney admitted it.

I'll believe that when it actually turns out to be true. Seeing as the WB themselves couldn't even obtain 1st hand knowledge of the call, and had to lie about he call in their would report. Running counter to the transcript that we received.

They'd still have to prove that something wrong was even done in the first place. Which they've yet to actually doe.

If you think you can, then you're welcome to try and succeed where they failed.

So... Sweep the absolute failure of the Soviet Left under the rug like we did after Russia, Russia, Russia failed so spectacularly. That's a good plan considering the large turd Soviet Schiff has dropped.

I agree... some seriously questionable **** happened.

Quid Pro Joe and his son **** Hunter Biden left a trail of corruption that could not and should not be ignored.

Ukraine.
China.
Romania.

Seems where Con Pop Joe went, his son was right behind him, taking in the haul.

I would be rather concerned about the situation from a Democrat perspective. They spent the last several years pushing the Russiagate scandal nonsense and where did it get them? Absolutely no where. You had people in the media acting as if every little thing was The Thing™ that was going to get Trump out of office (ignoring that it would pave the way for a President Pence). And now, seven months after the Russiagate fiasco, they are pushing this Ukraine situation.

The public is actually pretty split regarding the question of impeachment as 51% disagree with Trump being impeached, 44% agree, 53% have some level of trust in the process, while 44% have no trust at all. (Monmouth: Public support for impeachment inquiry, but few have a lot of trust in it | Opinion Poll | Donald Trump) I have to wonder, what if this falls flat like the Russia investigation?

Every American should be concerned about the Ukraine situation and most particularly Trump's propensity to simply push the envelop farther and farther and farther when it comes to abuses of his office and the assets of the People for his own personal benefit.

While you are acknowledging the propensity for the News Channels to push every little thing like "who won the day idiocy" you seem to have fallen victim to it.

How so? The media isn't anywhere pushing that Trump has "won the day," rather the exact opposite.
