We’ve reached the part of this tired charade where even those who’ve tried to escape the obvious conclusion now know that the emperor has no clothes. The mounting evidence from career diplomats, and Trump’s own political appointees, has laid bare his self-serving ploy in Ukraine. Many people have become numb to this Administration’s wrongdoing after almost three years of constant scandal. This is the challenge the Democrats face as they open public impeachment hearings this week. Can they get the country to pay attention? Can they produce a coherent narrative that will help people understand this most serious of Trump Administration debacles? Trump has, per usual, thrown out a barrage of defenses, hoping something will stick. So far nothing has. Here are the key defenses he’s tried and those he’ll likely move on to next, and why they all fail.

TIME looks at these Trump impeachment Defenses and the Reality is explained in-depth in the article above:

The Defense: Trump’s July 25, 2019, call with new Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was “perfect.”

The Defense: The whistleblower must come forward and their identity must be exposed.

The Defense: The President has a right to confront his accuser.

The Defense: Bribery isn’t a crime unless the bribe succeeds.

The Defense: Giuliani and Volker, Sondland and Perry — who called themselves “the three Amigos” — went rogue, pursuing Ukraine policy on their own, without Trump.

The Defense: Even if he did everything Democrats are alleging, it’s not impeachable conduct.

I'm not sure if the point is to have a successful defense, but rather to be able to generate excuses non-stop while trying to discredit the investigation.

This is all lies or self serving BS that offends any thinking person.

Yeah, we've moved beyond even really trying to pretend that what Trump did wasn't corrupt and into the usual, "Yes, he did this terrible thing, but oh well." stage that we inevitably do with pretty much all of his scandals.

It's not a bgi deal, but if he said it was a favor, that would be concerning?
Oops, he said it was favor!

No quid pro quo, if it was, that would be troublesome!
Oops, yes, quid pro quo, bu that's NOT troublesome!

Ukraine didn't even know we withheld aid?
oops, Ukraine DID know.

Ukraine wasn't pressured!
Oops, they were.

Being in secret makes this wrong!
It's going public? Oh, then going public is wrong!

We could go on.

I haven't seen *any* defense about what Rudy and his four criminal colleague were up to. Why was Trump using criminals to further his agenda?
Why was Trump/Rudy working against U.S. interests, outside of government, using a cast of criminals backed by Russia?

Good grief, these Republicans really do prefer Russia over Democracy.

But Hey, Rick Perry got his big energy backers a 50-year energy contract in the month he spent pushing Trump's "anti-corruption" agenda in Ukraine.

**** a duck.
