Ironically enough, the Marxist stance on human nature is that it's too shaped by material conditions to be accurately gauged through any one cultural lens; it is the opposite of what is claimed to be a Marxist stance in the OP. As an example: if you look at pre-industrialized societies, women in many of them will seem to prefer older men who have more resources, which lends credence to Mashmont's stance. However, in later stages of social development in that exact same society when women have entered the work force, women will begin to marry men that are closer to their age, a change that is allowed for by their lessened dependence on others' productivity. Until we hit a post-scarcity environment where there are no pressing survival needs that people must build their lives around, we won't be able to perfectly gauge human nature.

There are, in fact, leftists who believe that material conditions are not the primary driving force in history and society, and Marxists call these people idealists for being so foolish.

Not me. I've been married 31 years. I'm not looking for a 'date'. Although, if I had to, I have confidence I could easily get a woman if I wanted. The problem now would be these women would all have kids and grandkids. Not sure I'd want to deal with all that. And a woman my age who has never been married is most likely a screwball. The only other option would be a much younger woman, and that sounds boring to me. What would you talk about?

What I don't understand is why this guy is a slacker. He would need at least 730 lbs of meat to put two pounds of meat on the table every day. Some days he only puts one pound of meat on the table. Why would any woman want a slacker like that?
