Why does Katie Hill have to commit harikari, but nothing happens to Brett Kavanaugh and Trump?

This deserves it's own thread.

I'm absolutely seething right now that a strong female leader who is sexually liberated must vacate her spot in congress, but predators like Brett Kavanaugh get to keep their spots in government? Why do Republicans get away with this kind of heinous **** while people like Kate Hill have to fall on the sword? :mad::soap

Why must there be different rules for Republicans and Democrats?

No, she violated house ethics rules. Neither Trump nor Justice Kavanaugh have been members of the House of Representatives.
 
It's inappropriate to do what she did, but she shouldn't have to resign because of it. We have a president that has been accused of rape or sexual assault by dozens of women and nothing has happened to him.

As stated in her resignation letter, fears concerning additional damning photos, & revelations being leaked to the public played a role in Hill's decision to resign. It sounds like there's more odd behavior in her past, and she's resigning before it hits the fan. The "children who look up to her as a role model" deserve better.

Don't you get it? Hill was sacrificed so her peccadilloes, drinking, drugging and violation of House ethics rules wouldn't interfere with Democrats' sole mission to impeach Trump. If you want to blame anyone, blame Pelosi.

Another factor in Katie Hill's downfall to keep in mind: This isn't only about sexual behavior. Hill's husband revealed that she used her professional connections to get her husband a job while they were married. The DNC brass probably told her to resign in order to stop the bleeding.

Right. There are many layers here and despite Hill's protestations about being a victim, she's responsible for where she is today.
 
Sadly for her, she is a woman and therefore plays by a different set of rules in society. So the same people who cheer on Trump for being a "real man" as he serially cheated on his wives, paid off mistresses, fantasized about future dates with 12 year old girls, and bragged about using his power to force himself on women would have spent the next few decades relentlessly slut shaming Hill because she was in a consensual relationship and made the mistake of trusting a loved one with nude photos. She didn't need to resign, but doing so is totally understandable.

The "odd behaviour" is based on the probability of yet more revenge porn being released by her abusive husband. Then it being mainlined by Republicans.
 
Scrutiny and enemies come with the turf. She probably could have weathered the storm.

The buzz generated by the nude photos and alleged inappropriate sexual conduct put her on my radar.

I respect her decision.... and wish her the best of luck going forward!

You don't get that it's Pelosi who ultimately made the decision to stem the bleeding and cut Hill loose? This is politics, and Hill is a big girl, who made big girl choices, and knew the risks.

Her resignation letter indicates this has to do with her abusive ex husband. My gut instinct is that if there was to be more to come, it would probably be sex tapes.

I think some people are wearing blinders here. Imagine if a male member of congress coerced his young female staffers into sex while he was married, which was documented by photographs submitted by his ex-wife. There wouldn't be an ounce of support for him.
