I will never vote for Trump, the stable genius who is anything but. I don't even need to explain why. The man is a disaster.

But then, I don't want to vote for the nutty left either. I was planning to support Elizabeth Warren as the lesser evil but as a matter of fact I'm sick and tired of all the proposals by the Dems for all sorts of freebies that are impossible to pay for, and other follies like free elective (non-emergency) health care for illegal aliens, a measure that would have horrible unintended consequences, as I've detailed in other posts of mine on this matter.

So, I desperately want a centrist candidate to enter the race (but a viable one, not lackluster grandpa half-demented Joe Biden).

Say, Kasich decides to challenge Trump in the primaries (he wouldn't win, but at least he'd try - who knows?). Or Michael Bloomberg finally mounts a viable independent candidacy. I wish Colin Powell was 20 years younger and willing to run. I know he won't, and he's too old. A bit more to the left (but ultimately her husband was a centrist), I wish Michelle Obama would run. I could vote for either one of these four alternatives. But not for Trump, not for Biden, not for Sanders, not for Warren, who are the only 4 with a real shot at surviving the primaries (Trump will, and one of the other three will; likely Warren).

I have never failed to vote in presidential elections. I always thought that my responsibility is to pick the lesser evil. I abhor the idea of sitting out and by default enabling the bigger evil. But this time... I'm getting so frustrated with the current candidates, that I'm not ruling out not voting at all. I'm sure ultimately I'll pinch my nose and vote for whoever opposes Trump, but the temptation to go fishing on election day is huge, if the current candidates are the only ones.

Are there others here who feel like me?

You seem terribly and painfully confused about what you actually want.

I haven't voted for either party's candidate for President since 1992.

You seem terribly and painfully confused about what you actually want.

Why? I just want a viable, non-demented centrist. Is that so hard to understand, or so esoteric?
Oh, I see. You define yourself as a socialist. Probably a Sanders fan, and you tend to equal to confusion anybody who doesn't subscribe to your idol. Gotcha. Sanders in my opinion is the worst candidate of them all on the Democratic side. But not wanting him, in your book is painful confusion, huh?

There are still some good "centrists" in the race. Klobuchar, Buttigieg, Booker. Seriously, what makes Bloomberg better than any of them?

The only other option for centrism outside of Biden is Buttigieg. He has indeed been rising in the polls, and in Iowa he's now in 3rd place, so he might make this a three horse race.

Regardless, all of the candidates are at least not twisted sociopaths with fascist agendas.

Why? I just want a viable, non-demented centrist. Is that so hard to understand, or so esoteric?

Easy to understand....but at this point in time it appears there is no center. At least no recognizable human is occupying it. If history repeats, as it always does, democratic candidates will move to the center after the primaries. Maybe at that time you will feel better about your options. Trump has very well demonstrated where he's at, and there is no moving to a centric position for him.

We had over two dozen candidates in the race at the start. That was more than enough.

There are plenty of remaining center-left candidates to choose from not named Biden.

Viability. Neither Klobuchar, nor Buttigieg (whom I actually like), nor Booker stand any chance whatsoever.

In this dismal field, could finally an independent candidacy have a chance? Not so great, but probably better than Klobuchar's, Buttigieg's, or Booker's (the latter is actually already talking about dropping out).

Yes!!! we need a Hillary/Bloomberg ticket.

I don't worry about Warren or Sanders pushing through SOCIALISM!!! The system just isn't IMO geared for that, and aspiring to, say, MFA is no different than the GOP candidates proposing like Trump did a $10 TRILLION tax cut plan during the primaries. All the GOP candidates were in the mid $trillions, and obviously those weren't going to happen, and no one really worried about it. They were just laying out markers for what they wanted, which was HUGE, MASSIVE tax cuts and we all went, OK, whatever dudes.

So this is the flip side of that. It's kind of IMO revealing of the biases in the system, including the corporate media, that lots of people are wringing their hands on this but exactly NO ONE believed Trump or the GOP would push through those massive tax cut proposals, and we all just shrugged. But aspiring for UHC for the masses and we're all supposed to lose our **** over it.

At any rate, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. The only way it happens is if Democrats get about 65 Senate seats, and that's...not likely. But if it does, Warren or Sanders wins about 45 states in a huge, massive blue wave election and your vote won't matter at all.

They have no chance. The Dem nominee will be either Biden, or Sanders, or Warren.

Money. Lots and lots of money.

Probably. But we can't get everything we want in a candidate. We only get one.

"Viability"? Nebulous. We have several months to learn who these people are.

I like the social democracies in Europe... the ones that are able to self-finance their programs and are not a hugely complex 330-million nation. I don't abhor social democracy, it's just that as you said, I don't think America is prepared for it, and I think the ideas being pitched by the nutty left are just inviable.

I agree that the Senate will not remove Trump from office.

Now, your last paragraph, I'm not convinced AT ALL that it is guaranteed that Trump will lose. He is the incumbent and the economy is perceived as good (whether it is actually good is another matter, but it is perceived as such), and most models in similar situations favor the incumbent. Trump had a narrow victory in 2016, aided by several unique factors, but this time he is the incumbent; it's a different animal and this kind of complacency that it doesn't matter is very dangerous and the very thing that may help him win again. I live in a swing state and I think my vote does matter.

2X have I voted one of the 2 party for prez.
I did not last time. Both were so bad I figured it didn't matter. Well, today it looks like it might have. But at least it wasn't a lifer insider. But tRUMP is a total disaster to non insiders.
Mostly because he is in the lowest form of human being.

Why? I just want a viable, non-demented centrist. Is that so hard to understand, or so esoteric?

I'm not saying centrism is bad if that's what you want. Some people don't want change. But there is an embarrassment of centrist riches already running. Biden checks all of your boxes, and is arguably a leading candidate.

Are you after policy or personality?

Kasich is bland, Bloomberg is bland, all three of them offer nothing significant in terms of moving the ball forward, AKA centrism.

Michelle Obama might be more progressive than you think. I like her. But just because she's married to Obama, a centrist, doesn't mean she doesn't have her own views. But it's a moot point because she hates politics.

If you think Biden is too old then vote for Mayor Pete in the primaries. He's at 13% in Iowa.

I might do just that. But his national numbers are not so good.

It's not that I don't want change. It's rather that I want healing. The nation needs a bland centrist... to bridge the horrible divide, and to normalize the role of the POTUS again after all the bad precedents Trump has started.

I like Michelle Obama too and I know that she won't run, which is a pity. She'd win easily, both the primaries and the general election. Yes, she is more progressive than Obama but likely not as extreme as Sanders and Warren.

"Viability"? Nebulous. We have several months to learn who these people are.

Amen, brother. If Buttigieg's chances improve, then I'll be rooting for him. I'm not very optimistic that he'll win. Rarely the best primary candidate wins. The best Republican was Kasich, we got Trump. The best current Dem is Buttigieg, we may get Warren or Sanders. The Dems in 2016 managed to select the second worst candidate in recent history (only second to Trump).

Not really seeing how Warren and Sanders are all that extreme considering a lot of what they promote is what we had in the middle of the 20th Century (e.g. high taxes on the super wealthy, return of Glass-Steagall Act, etc.)
