I normally think AOC gets hammered enough by the right, to the point where I usually just tune her drivel out, but she said something a few days ago that really takes the cake as far as ignorance, not just ignorance, but a full demonstration of a mindset of losers they espouse.

I’m going to ignore the climate change stuff, go to the last line

I speak to you as a daughter and descendant of colonized peoples who have already begun to suffer."

what colonized peoples would those be? She has a glorious last name, same as one of my personal heroes from the 16th century. She is clearly at least half Iberian in her descent. If half to a majority of her ancestry were the victorious ColonizERs who rooted out a defective and primitive culture and replaced it with a new culture centered on western values and the Christian religion, why would she identify herself with the losers? Why not the winners?

This is a great example of victim hood culture right here.

In Indigenous America you get sacrificed to God, in Catholic Spain god is sacrificed to you!

Are you going to tell me with a straight face these cultures were even approaching equal?

I’d say that level of simplification of all the nations and cultures from the Canadian Arctic to the Cape Horn before Europeans arrived is Earth Shatteringly ignorant and hardly surprising given who I’m talking to.

Our Constitution and supreme law of the land was intelligently designed to be both gender and race neutral, from Inception.

Person is the term used.

It conforms to the concept of natural rights.

Not a single indigenous culture in the Americas was even equal. Let alone superior.

The worst atrocities of slavery and human sacrifice were practiced by the most advanced indigenous society. Which Latin American country do you wish to disband and condemn all the residents back to pre-Colombian times and practices?

This is the problem, is our culture is glorifying losers. We should glorify the winners.

It was clearly worth enough for you to read and make a response to.

The passive aggressive ignorance from the right over a junior congresswoman is just so cute. Do you ever stop whining?

The Spaniards committed more than their fair share of atrocities, and they certainly practiced slavery. On what basis do you claim their culture to be morally superior?

We do have an unsustainable way of life, but it is funny that only people in concrete jungles who perpetuate that unsustainable way of life preach about it.

Most “atrocities” were military Victories.

The Spanish did not practice human sacrifice, slavery was far more regulated by the Spanish crown then by the leaders of indigenous nations, the Spanish established cities with public order and services. Also the Spanish assimilated many of the natives in to their culture through marriage and hence the Latino ethnicity was created.

Like how Christians in AC cooled megachurches with malls preach about being a humble Christian while people are starving?

Is a military atrocity not still an atrocity? By "assimilated", do you mean they forced the indigenous population at swordpoint to work in silver mines and on sugar plantations without compensation? Because that's what happened. It was called the encomienda system.

Indigenous cultures also had ordered cities with public services. Mexico City was much cleaner and more orderly before the Spanish arrived than it is today. The Spaniards were good at only one thing, and that's taking things that others worked for.

I am not familiar with any mega churches with malls so I will have to take your word that such things exist. Malls, however, are largely a dying shopping experience adding to urban decay.

Ummm. Bullsh!t I guarantee you no one in Mexico City today years to live in Tenochtitlán.

Taking things is work btw.

Yes when a civilization meets a far less civilized society there will be some tension and some military conquest. However the Spanish did Not wholesale wipeout indigenous cultures, they instead christianized them and intermarried and allowed a mestizo culture to emerge. The Spanish in fact were more progressive then the Protestant British in that interracial marriage was encouraged

Sounds like the church was next door and the shoppers got lost.

We have a church that took over a dated strip mall type shopping center that was all but vacant when they bought it. Started at the closed movie theater on one end, bought the closed grocery at the other end and worked their way toward the closed close-out bargain type store in the middle. I suppose it was better than the thing sitting there unused, falling down, though I would rather have had the city or whoever take it, demolish it and turn it into a park or greenspace since it sits right at the intersection of two rivers.

I attend a very traditional church with no AC.

The Babylon bee is an evangelical protestant Version of the onion

I see these dead malls in cities near where I live where the rents are really high and I wish the city would rezone these old commercial districts and allow the mall to be demolished and put housing there.

Nope. It was actually a church. I've been to one that had food court and stores.

Our mall is a ghost town as far as the interior stores. A few of the anchor stores are holding on, at least for now.

We don't have a housing problem in my city other than there is too much of it as the population is declining and we have a steady flow of white flight out of the city and into the suburbs. That creates another type of problem. Even decent houses in decent neighborhoods sit on the market unless they are new as people have gotten too picky, which in turn turns those into rentals, which leaves the even older houses struggling to find buyers or tenants. The city has been going in clearing out houses in the worst parts of the city which is fine as far as sprawl, but that drives crime into other areas, which drives white flight, rinse and repeat.

From the mouth of Cortes himself.

"This great city of Tenochtitlán is built on the salt lake, and no matter by what road you travel there are two leagues from the main body of the city to the mainland. There are four artificial causeways leading to it, and each is as wide as two cavalry lances. The city itself is as big as Seville or Córdoba. The main streets are very wide and very straight; some of these are on the land, but the rest and all the smaller ones are half on land, half canals where they paddle their canoes. All the streets have openings in places so that the water may pass from one canal to another. Over all these openings, and some of them are very wide, there are bridges. . . . There are, in all districts of this great city, many temples or houses for their idols. They are all very beautiful buildings. . . . Amongst these temples there is one, the principal one, whose great size and magnificence no human tongue could describe, for it is so large that within the precincts, which are surrounded by very high wall, a town of some five hundred inhabitants could easily be built. All round inside this wall there are very elegant quarters with very large rooms and corridors where their priests live. There are as many as forty towers, all of which are so high that in the case of the largest there are fifty steps leading up to the main part of it and the most important of these towers is higher than that of the cathedral of Seville."

In October 1519, Cortés and his men, accompanied by about 1,000 Tlaxcalteca, marched to Cholula, the second largest city in central Mexico. Cortés, either in a pre-meditated effort to instill fear upon the Aztecs waiting for him at Tenochtitlan or (as he later claimed, when he was being investigated) wishing to make an example when he feared native treachery, massacred thousands of unarmed members of the nobility gathered at the central plaza, then partially burned the city.

Is this the progressive behavior of the Spanish?
