If Ruth Bader Ginsburg retires or dies in office when Trump is still president, will abortion become illegal?
 
Last I checked the supreme court doesn't actually make things illegal.

If RvW is ever overturned then it becomes a state issue to decide if it is legal or illegal.

That's what liberals don't understand. They believe the courts are the ones that make laws.

So your hope is if she dies the court will be strongly stacked in the favor of conservatives and they will rule against Roe vs. Wade? I guess it's already 5/4 in favor of conservatives?

I think they have to take it up first, and I believe it's quite difficult to reverse a Supreme Court ruling isn't it?

It's not difficult. All the justices need to do is explain that Roe was incorrectly decided and poof, it goes away like a fart in the wind.

They'd have to agree to take up the case first, which is far from gaurunteed. I've yet to see any good constitutional argument for why government should have authority over an individuals medical decisions.

I thought conservatives believed in small government and freedom. Why are they so obsessed with this issue? At best it would be illegal in red states. People would get on a bus to get their abortions. If it was completely illegal, people would go to illegal basement abortion clinics and use pills or go to Mexico or Canada. Conservatives are chasing their tail.

I'm a Christian. I think abortion is wrong but I believe we should persuade people it's wrong not coerce them using government. Government coercion doesn't work. We tried it.

Moreover, most people have abortions because they can't afford to have the child. Conservatives want to make it harder for poor people to be able to afford to have the child. They're promoting abortion through their policies.
 
If it dies, it will be death by a 1000 cuts. Roberts likes to say the Court is not political, but those conservatives are not going to give the Dems a campaign issue like the end of legal abortion - certainly not before election day.
 
Abortion is N E V E R going to be overturned. It is a ploy...a dog bone tossed out every now and again meant to keep people dancing. Dont worry...you will always be able to slaughter unborn children...that 'right' is not going to be taken from you.
