10/15/19 debate thread

Joe Biden, Mr Bumble. If he just had time he would explain his plan. Teachers and Firefighters in America make $100,000 a year. I know this because Joe said so Tuesday night October 15, 2019.

UBI is a bandaid, while the other candidates are directly addressing structural problems contributing to financial hardship in the first place.
That's a fair point. UBI is more ideological and conceptual, vs nuts & bolts legislation.

Warren refused to admit she will raise taxes on the middle class. Sooner tgan later she will have to admit that. Moderators need to press the candidates to answer what's asked not go off on a tangent

That's not her plan to pay for Medicare for all. She'll raise taxes on corporate profits, not on the middle class.

Mayor Pete, in what world did Trump make the economy worse? Not for the folks I know and associate with, and I'm very middle class.

He's my favorite right now.
He might be my favorite if we remove electability from the equation; I think he would present a great contrast to Trump in one-on-one debates. But I'm not sure he has enough pizzaz to motivated those that are drawn to emotionality.

New drinking game take a drink anything Warren says

"Lets be clear"

I usually do that with Biden's "the fact of the matter is". His people need to beat that phrase out of him with a stick.

What bothers me about UBI is that as it grows the structural weaknesses...health care, education cost, lack of protector rights, costs from environmental degradation...all of it continues to degrade. And then, one day, UBI is taken away or chipped away at by a malevolent administration, and the people are ****ed because all of their eggs were placed in one basket.

UBI is just a bandage for disguising the growing rot underneath.

If you don't think taxes of the middle class will go up if Warren is elected president you're extremely naive.

He doesn't have the black support.

I think he could give it a shot. He might overcome some of the gay stuff if he makes inroads elsewhere, but he sure has squandered the last few months in that regard.

Gawd...

He could always do a debate in drag and play Cher at all of his rallies.

They're screwed anyway, then. UBI does one great thing: Beneficiaries still have incentive to produce more income. I despise income based social programs.

Warren is basically the main character tonight. Now we’re seeing how she performs when everybody starts biting at her heels. I’m sure Biden is happy to finally get a break.

And she explained how she plans to pay for it all? No of course not. She just makes claims without an explanation of where the money comes from. It's not hard to explain where the money will come from but she knows she cannot tell you where it will come.

The moderators could at least try and hide their Warren bias and stop giving her so much time and allow the rest of the people on stage a fair chance to speak.

He's a Midwestern white boy. His biggest problem with them isn't that he's gay (except to older black voters). It's that he can't relate to black people and when he tries, he looks like a tool.

Which will affect corporate profitability which into turn hurts the investments and pension plans of those middle class folks and maybe even cost them their jobs.

Biden is pulling a Hunter, hiding out tonight. A couple of his answers sounded typical confusing. Oh, yeah he said he could explain his plan if he had more time.

She seems to be holding her own, though. Even though I much prefer the public option, and believe this forced Medicare for All position will really hurt her in the general.

I'm fine with a tax increase if I can stop paying this asshole company and their ridiculous deductibles and copays.

Rather pay the asshole government?

You're ignorant of Elizabeth Warren's tax plan.

About $8000 in taxes (depending on your bracket, of course) is not worse than $16,000 in premiums, copays and deductibles.
How does that happen? You expect providers to cut their rates in half?

Yes, she does. She's aware that if a billionaire is going to get taxed an extra 3%, they're not going to be happy with it. Warren's idea for corporations is pretty brilliant. She basically says 'I don't really care what the corporate tax rate is, I know you have loopholes. I'm going to tax 7% of the profits that you declare to stockholders and the SEC So there's no other loopholes, whatever the profit it, the US government is going to take 7% of it.

I can't help but feel Biden is beyond his prime. A great guy. But too old. 2016 was his moment in time, he didn't take it.
