Perfect defense - yep, I did indeed make a fortune off of the Biden name, but if (when?) Daddy gets back into political power I'll try better to stay under the radar.

I don't think any people on the left were saying he wasn't making money off his name? Have there been? But that in and of itself isn't criminal, it kind of goes with the territory, just ask Eric, Ivanka and Don jr. (Though don't ask Tiffany, I think it makes her sad).

Exactly, those who write the laws are not about to end that gravy train. They may say that they would or at least wish to do so, but that's just politics.
 
Why is this a story at all? Did he do something illegal or is it really about him banking on his dad's name? I have no idea why Trump thinks this is something he could use against Biden.

What makes you think Trump needs anything against Biden? Exposing the past dem-fuelled corruption in the Ukraine is sufficient ... Joe Biden is just an added bonus. ;)

Outside of strict nepotism laws, there really isn't a mechanism I see that would work for someone like Biden's children, or Trump's children making money off who they are.
If such a law could be drafted, and passed, I'd be ok with it.

Is your official position that people shouldn't be allowed to bank off of their parent's name? If so I have some bad news about the entire Trump family and virtually every other person born into extreme wealth.
