Texas officer who fatally shot woman in her home arrested on murder charges

Fry his ass

The police officer who fatally shot a Fort Worth, Texas, woman in her home while answering a call for a welfare check has been arrested on murder charges. The charge comes after the officer abruptly resigned on Monday just before he was about to be fired for allegedly violating multiple department policies, the police chief said.

Its a sad situation. I feel for the family. That officer should have never been on the force. My guess is it will be a manslaughter charge. Given the fact it was a welfare call and not made through 911, I don't understand why the officer was so hyped up. Stupid decision with a horrible result.

I am glad they arrested the officer if for nothing else but to show support for the family. They are really good people and its a shame they lost her due to ignorance.

I saw them today on the news and I just felt so bad for them.

I don't know the case you guys are talking about but in just the last year there have been so many where people should have been charged with the least filing a false report.
It's been disgusting.

This case that neighbor did nothing wrong he called the a non emergency number asked for a check. He did not make up a story.

I just grabbed the first link that came up so hopefully it's an accurate description.

Walmart: 911 caller 'intentionally lied to police' about man with toy gun fatally shot in Ohio store | KIRO-TV

How can the called have any fault? He was concerned for the welfare of a neighbor. That is not a crime. Is it so difficult for the cop to knock on a door and ascertain that the person inside is alive and in reasonable health?

I think he's meaning the call on the guy at Walmart. That caller added in complete BS in regards to what the "suspect" was doing that made him out to be a danger. In reality the guy was just meandering with a BB gun he'd gotten off the shelf.

Because we cant count on the police to show up and not murder them ?

Because the police are tools and, like any tool, can be dangerous if not used properly. The police are for managing criminals not for you to find out why your neighbor leaves their door open at night.

My heart breaks for the family but that woman's poor mother who's health in declining and now her own daughter who was caring for her has been killed has to be devastated.

What the hell is a welfare check? I’d never heard of such a thing until today. In my world if I was concerned about I’d knock on the door and check on them myself.

How are the neighbor the problem? He hadn't seen the lady, he was concerned about her safety so he called the cops to check on her. Does that give the cop the right to kill her by mistake and not be held accountable for his fatal decision because he seems to be afraid of his own shadow and the fact that he wears a badge?

What would you do it it was your daughter or mother that he killed? Would you give him a gold star and pat him on the back, after your mother/daughter's funeral?

I don’t know why anyone is sitting around keeping track of when their neighbors close their doors at night. I’m not so nosy that I need to know why any of my neighbors might leave a door ajar after 10PM. It’s creepy. But if I were that nosy and concerned about their safety I would probably call them or go over there.

The officer certainly made some mistakes, but at the end of the day this boils down to another case of society using law enforcement for purposes they are not intended to be used for. Don’t call law enforcement and imply there might be a home invasion in progress because your neighbors don’t close their doors when you think they should. It’s none of your business but if you want to know why your neighbor leaves their door open at night then haul your own backside over there and ask them. Stop calling the police for stupid reasons.

I remember that. Didn't that happen around Dayton/Springfield?

So if her house has been taken over earlier by criminals that tied her and the kid up and then fled, and left the door opened, neighbors shouldn't question why something is out of place? There's a thing called Neighborhood Watch and that's precisely what it means. It's helped more people than can probably be counted.

Occasionally if someone can't be reached by phone and doesn't answer the door for a few days people will call the cops and have them knock on the door and check on someone to see if they are ok.

I'm just glad the Police department made the arrest. It doesn't fix anything but it might help in letting the family know they are not isolated. That was a big deal for them today as they felt like this was going to be a cover up. I don't blame them for feeling like that and I'm glad the city made the right choice.

The next step is to figure out what kind of damages the city is going to come up with for them. You can't put a price on anything like this but you can certainly make the effort. I hate s**t like this. Just feel so bad for them.

Ill post the same thing here i posted in the other thread

Watching the body cam is horrendous . . this dude had no business being a cop . . and neither does his partner for that matter . .. Two rotten apples

Ive said it before and ill say it again, i have local cops and troopers in my circle of friends/family and when we talk about these things they all say the same thing. While bigotry is a definite factor polluting the police departments along with getting people to actually absorb their training . . the biggest issue is the type of person, the quality of person, the character of person is way lesser than what it used to be. To many individuals scared of their own shadow and dont care about anything else pathetic individuals . . not heros

I’m sure that’s the exact scenario he had in mind when he called a non-emergency line that frankly shouldn’t even exist.

A person could be concerned that a parent (in another state) isn't answering their phone, or an elderly neighbor who you see every day isn't out. So you knock on their door, they don't answer, then what? Just go home and turn on the TV? Or would you call authorities to come check that person?

Not every situation calls for lights flashing and sirens blaring. He did the right thing and sadly the cop didn't. At least by what we know so far.

That police officer was not alone and it appears that his partner shared the brilliant idea (standard for a police "welfare visit"?) of parking the marked police car out of sight, not knocking on the door or announcing a police presence, sneaking around the perimeter of the house, with guns drawn (ready to defend themselves?) and shining flashlights into the windows. That this plan of action may unnecessarily alarm the occupants (at 2:30 AM) did not occur to either of them - being trained and (union?) certified professionals, of course.

The entire chain of command of this police department should have their pay docked (by at least 25%) until that surviving young child, who saw their mother killed in the house by police, graduates college. Why should those "heroes in blue" most responsible for this gross abuse of police power and lack of (common sense?) training be able to pass the cost of their stupidity on to the taxpayers?

And I would say that wanting to know why your neighbor’s door is ajar is not a good reason to call the police. He’s no better than BBQ Becky.

My daughter called me and we were talking as she was commuting home. When she got home she noticed that the door was unlocked and partially open. I told her to stay pout of the house and call the police to do a walkthrough. They rather do that then respond to a home invasion or find her murdered 2 hours later when her roommate came home because she surprised a robbery in progress.
The cop was polite and professional and they didn't find anything.

I'd never call the cops for an open door at 10:00 pm but I might if there were 5 days of unopened mail and newspapers on the porch.

TY for not living near me.

Heres the horrendous Body Cam I was talking about earlier that shows all the many wrong steps and piss poor execution

Can anybody tell me what the partner whispers right after the 1:20 mark???

This is just monumentally stupid and dishonest LMAO

Let us know when the neighbor is arrested for conspiracy to commit murder. In the interim, I hope the police stop taking non-emergency busybody calls nationwide.
And what good does this response do? The officer looks to be completely at fault. Let the investigation play out but responses like this just makes people angry.
