An interesting theory emerges: Trump wants to be impeached

Trump only cares about his base. That's what his brand is for, especially now. He knows that most of America hates his guts.

Sure, but from a business perspective the brand needs a much broader base. Impeachment martyrdom isn't going to be a very useful branding tool down the line either; being impeached is a stigma.

Hell no they dont. They have all told so many lies, none of them would know what the other might say!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would be a blood bath resulting in most of them in jail for lying to Congress.

None of them will go to jail. Not one single one of them.

A few lower tier people you've never heard of will fall on the sword, get a few years, get out, and have sweet jobs as lobbyists or traders at Goldman Sachs, and that'll be that.

The American way.

I don't have a specific article, but there are a few ideas circulating that Trump wants to be impeached. He doesn't see a viable means to win re-election and he would prefer to go out a martyr rather than as a one-term-loser (especially to a woo-man like Warren). Plus, Trump probably hates being president. I think the idea has merit. Thoughts?

It is his large ego that works against this theory. He loves being the head of the free world. And he probably thinks the pols are biased and his core will come through for him.

The idea has no merit at all.
If Trump did not want to run again he would just say that and not run.
Think about what your suggesting here. Because Trumps ego is so big that he cant stand losing he rather be removed from office by impeachment?
Comeon man, think about it.

Honestly, I don't see it being that unviable of a theory. I mean, we likely won't ever know, so it's all speculation, and therefore simply an interesting discussion, but his whole adventure as POTUS has been dripping in ego and delusions... He wants a legacy, that much is clear. Would impeachment by a "corrupt" government make a better epitaph than "got his ass whooped by a lady"?

I don't see this as being as far out as you seem to think. All of his childishness and tantrums and exaggeration and lying all kind of support it...despite it being impossible to prove. Certainly it's always appeared that Trump is using America as a prop for his autobiography...

As you say we are just tossing around our opinions but i dont see Trump wanting to be impeached a realistic one in terms of it being an exit strategy.

The out come of a trial in the Senate would be not guilty for Trump, and many democrats in jail for lying to Congress.

You cant really impeach on the grounds that Trump made democrats cry.

Does he want to be impeached? Maybe.

Does he want to be removed? No.

If he wants impeachment, it's because he believes it will cause blow back at the ballot box, similar to what happened to Billy Boy. What Donny fails to calculate in this wager is that Billy was always more popular than Trump will ever be.

Fair nuff... :) I see impeachment as his last opportunity to go down in history as anything other than a boob, and even there it's a gamble. But gamble notwithstanding, it's one more reason why I, as a consistent critic of Trump, do not want to see him impeached. The American people need to vote Trump out...that's the only way you get rid of him and get to call it a happy ending.

What your suggesting is insane.
You want me to believe he ran in 2016 with the intention of losing but now in 2020 the idea of losing is so distasteful to him that he rather be impeached.

Consider the people making these claims and it's not surprising.

It is nearly impossible to suss out the thinking process of irrational people. Trump is clearly such a person. I do believe, however, that the filing deadline for Senate candidates will have a profound impact on impeachment voting. Vulnerable Republican candidates will keep their powder dry until they know whether they have a primary opponent. This can cut both ways, allowing moderates without an opponent to shift toward impeachment, but requiring moderates with a right-wing opponent to oppose it. The importance of the election calendar is overlooked by so many.
