Because trade wars are easy to win...


If you don't want trade "wars" then you can always just surrender in trade negotiations every time. That would be to the disadvantage of the US and all US citizens. That was recently the policy before Trump came along.

China is being difficult because they think they can outlast Trump without too much self injury. They think that the next president will revert to the policy of giving them whatever they want. They are probably right.

Did Canada not fold?

Lets see

A slight increase to the amount of milk that the US can export to Canada and a requirement for a % of content for auto's to be manufactured in higher wage factories

Along with a requirement that notifications of engaging in other trade talks.

That is what was in general gained. As folding goes that would be like folding the corner of a page in book, as opposed to folding a paper in half then folding it again. For all Trump's bluster and threats very little was gained regarding Canada
