I believe the lawyers, who are taking a broad argument that a President cannot be burdened with an investigation, in an attempt to get the NY State Prosecutors demand for 8 years of his tax returns blocked, are making a strategic error. Why? The concept that "no man is above the law" is a concept so entrenched and fundamental in American jurisprudence, well, the 9th circuit ( if it goes there ) will surely rule against, and if taken to SCOTUS, I can't even imagine Gorsuch going along with this one, though Kavanaugh might. I doubt SCOTUS will even take it, and they will let a lower court's ruling stand, unless, of course, they sided with Trump's lawyers.

So, Trump, good luck with that.

Trump Lawyers Argue He Cannot Be Criminally Investigated - The New York Times

Lawyers for President Trump argued in a lawsuit filed on Thursday that he could not be criminally investigated while in office, as they sought to block a subpoena from state prosecutors in Manhattan demanding eight years of his tax returns.

[...]

Presidents, they asserted, have such enormous responsibility and play a unique role in government that they cannot be subject to the burden of investigations, especially from local prosecutors who may use the criminal process for political gain.

Funny that the right didn't think that way with Bill Clinton.

I think back on Trump's "stand on 5th and shoot somebody" and I have to give him credit. He was right. He knew becoming president he could work the laws to his advantage and that the world is full of stupid people just waiting to be taken. Promise them a 10 course meal with your favorite dessert they'll vote you in. And when he served a 2 course meal, a percentage said wait wth? and the rest are saying "sweet! it came with cheesecake!!!"

I'm thankful that I realized a 2 course meal isn't a 10 course meal no matter how he sells it and I'm thankful I see more and more people realizing the same thing.

To the rest of you, enjoy your cheesecake. You got taken. I got taken too. I can admit that. But I also have realized cheesecake doesn't add 8 courses to a meal.
