From the Department of Duh:

People with lower emotional intelligence are more likely to hold right-wing views, study finds

The researchers found that individuals with weaker emotional abilities — particularly emotional understanding and management — tended to score higher on a measure of right-wing authoritarianism and social dominance orientation.

Right-wing authoritarianism is a personality trait that describes the tendency to submit to political authority and be hostile towards other groups, while social dominance orientation is a measure of a person’s preference for inequality among social groups.

Being an authoritarian requires that a dominant group organize itself and assume strong-handed power over other people. Critical to this is that these people show a marked lack of empathy to those whom they try to dominate.

Let's see how many responses we get where people respond defensively with their own prejudices instead of actually addressing the research.

Plenty of evidence of that here.

A recent study found that 75% of soft science studies can't be replicated.

The replication crisis (or replicability crisis or reproducibility crisis) is, as of 2019, an ongoing methodological crisis in which it has been found that many scientific studies are difficult or impossible to replicate or reproduce. The replication crisis affects the social and life sciences most severely.

So I would say if this is true, how do you explain Antifa, screaming at conservatives in restaurants, blocking traffic because you don't like the president, terrorizing family members of conservative reporters in their own homes, burning peoples businesses to the ground, rioting on campuses to stop free speech, attacking individuals with mobs because they are Republican, colleges paying out millions to conservative business owners for false accusations of racism.

Seems all evidence to the contrary, doesn't it.

It would be interesting to see if these results cam be replicated in other countries or if this trait is something found only in Belgium.

I have to make some popcorn for this one :popcorn2:

We have seen, in the past, that many people will respond to a political leader and party which promises to right what they perceive as wrongs. The party can be on the right or on the left as demonstrated by, say, Chavez in Venezuela and Mussolini in Italy. In such extreme cases, those who rally behind the leader do not see the risk of single party rule. The leaders may assume power initially through legal means. This happened in Italy with Mussolini and in Germany with Hitler.

Are these people different, emotionally, from those who do not play 'follow the leader'? I don't know.

I like how the study calls it "right-wing" authoritarianism.

Modern progressivism is about as authoritarian as it gets. In fact if you include the SJWs snd Antifa crowd it goes all the way to full-on totalitarianism.

Lefties aren't authoritarian. They're perfectly willing to let you live and believe as you wish...as long as they approve.

The study doesn't appear to have attempted to correlate emotional maturity with actual voting patterns or political party affiliations. It just declares it to be "right-wing" authoritarianism. B-cuz we says so!

Ok thanks for clearing that up.

Theres a fundamental problem(s) with the article. It offers conclussions but offers no metrics to debate. What exactly are they basing their opinion on?

:2rofll:

Right.

That's why radical left socialist progressives scream for safe spaces, and go psychotic at the sight of red hats.

The left is so emotionally stunted it's alarming.

These studies wouldn't be good for toilet paper or cleaning up after dogs.

BTW, how can anyone address the research, when the research isn't presented, just an article that claims it's summarizing the conclusion?

I used to have deep conservative values but then I found out that my Emotional IQ was really high (hard to believe but true) and as a result of this revelation I then realized that I was really a Liberal and have been one ever since.

Your position is that a study in Belgium that finds right-wingers have a "tendency to submit to political authority and be hostile towards other groups", while also being more likely to engage in "social dominance orientation" is disproven by a rant about a bunch of wannabe anarchist thugs who sometimes punch people, which you then associate with all of "the left" in the typical cowardly wink wink nudge nudge know what I mean fashion?

You think trying to smear the entirety of "the left" with ANTIFA even though all but one person identifying as on the left here has disapproved of them shows that their finding about right wingers' intelligence relative to the left is false?

That all makes sense to you? And the study is wrong, just because of the **** you said?

:thinking

You know, there may be any number of issues with surveying 834 undergrads in Belgium and extrapolating from it, but whatever those issues are, they sure as **** aren't the "issues" you thought you found.
